As we inched our way down from Alesund to Bergen we slowly saw the scenery change before our eyes. For the last week we were playing in a disneyland adventure. Between the bright lime green pastures set against the dark greens of the forest that are protecting the farms yet, we couldnt decide for the life of us - do we look at the reflection in the lake and see the painted picture or look around and see the beauty in fragments all the while taking in so many details that made us exhausted at the end of the day.
We were on an 8 hour journey towards the south , where the mountains became rounder and the colors a bit more subdued. The rivers were almost empty but we were so happy as mickey mouse and donald duck that the drive went very quickly even as the scenery dulled (i cant believe i wrote that but, compared to the north - there is a difference).
Six hours into the ride we saw on our left a water fountain (that what we ended up calling those gushing falls) and decided to take a break. We saw a sign but
couldn't figure out how to get close to the fall when suddenly, out of nowhere (elijahu hanavi?) we saw a car drive past us, Quickly I hailed him down and asked in sign language where to go? With a great smile he said "follow me" in Norwegian and lead us over a rickety bridge next to a field of grazing cows. There we found behind a gate an english couple and their 5 beautiful black retrievers jumping around the herd. As we tried to open the gate to get to our desired destination we were greeted by the friendly cows who were more than happy to lick us hello. It was a site of chaos for a few moments. The dogs listening to their owner all the while the cows were trying to sniff and lick them, us and anything else that was around. It made me nervous that I was seeing these cows kind of like my dog- how am i ever going to eat steak? happy with all of the fun and games we ran up to the powerful flood of water to enjoy the refreshing mist with our new bovine friends.
For the next part of
our trip we decided not to stay in Bergen after reading that more than a day would be enough and knowing it was probably a tourist madhouse. After days of internet searching I found a way out place called Modalin which was about an hour outside of Bergen. The price was very cheap and it had a kitchen so I was excited while a little concern about the area. Tired and hungry we turned off the road towards Modalin for the last 15 minutes of our eight hour drive . A few roads that were 10% grade on our famous one lane highway that twisted and turned around the Modalin fjord to get a glimpse of our next adventure. A tiny village that greets you with its CEMENT FACTORY. The village is cute and quant (population on a good guess 200) - we arrived at 8pm to be greeted by not such a nice young lady.. took the key to our room to discover a very very small room with a very big view. SO... it's all good.
Bergen Bergen.. that's all people talk about and I have to be honest. the old quarter is very interesting , the
small streets are very nice , the graffiti is confusing but it's a must see but a bit overrated. So if you are thinking of spending lots of money there.. don't..
Today we are off to hike in flam and maybe see the Aurland shoe factory😊)
