Bergen to Kirkenes - the half part of our cruise with Hurtigruten Thursday 31st May 2012 Fred and Lorraine left a little earlier than us as they wanted to take the funicular up Mt Floyen and we hadn't made up our minds on where we wanted to go. We first backpacked in Eastern Europe in 2001 visiting Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia & Italy. In 2002 we spent the whole 12 months backpacking around the world. Husky puppy

We were able to cuddle the puppies at Villmarkssenter - one of the biggest activity centres in Norway. In winter we could have gone sled riding which is what Judy wanted but of course she hadn't considered that there would be no snow in summer!

Huskies

The Villmarkssenter has almost 300 Alaskan huskies which they keep in pairs - each with their own little kennel. This company offers dog sledding trips and northern lights safaris from 4 hours to 5 days in the winter time. In the summer they focus on the midnight sun with kayaking trips, glacier hikes, and mountains hikes but for "boat" tourists just a brief glimpse of the dogs.

This lone statue was set in the cemetery high above the town.

A group of school kids were protesting about something and marched the 1.2 kms into town, not letting the traffic pass.
