Keukenhof literally means kitchen courtyard. Actually it is an annual garden show located at Lisse, The Netherlands. It begins sometime in March and ends on the third week of May. Here is a short video which I filmed last April 7, 2012, showing tulip gardens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBDOznbEbTk For more videos: type in youtube milnovsag keukenhof. There are 4 short videos to view. Tip: buy a combi ticket for € 21,--. It means you have a return ticket and entrance ticket. You can buy on-line paying with a credit card or buy from a tourist office. Public transportation is most accessible in going to Keukenhof. From Schiphol airport If you are a tourist waiting for your flight in the evening at Schiphol airport then it might interest you to know that there is a bus going straight to ... read more

After Teleri and Lydia came to visit, my sister arrived late Friday night from Schiphol, Amsterdam to Breda! At first I took my sister everywhere on the back of my bike, then we decided to cycle togther to the woods where we had a picnic. I introduced her to my international friends and Sunday thought we'd turn up at the Evers family to say hello. Only we spent a whole lovely day at the Evers family, catching up with the boys who we've known since we were born and playing family games round the table then staying for dinner! Although they both said they would be really busy they made a huge effort to spend time with us; Monday Lennert came round to watch a film and Tuesday night Ron came out for drinks! Our aunt ... read more

Our third and last day with Syliva, it was fun to take her to a place she had never been in all her years of Amsterdam - the Keukenhof Flower gardens which we were told were the largest flower gardens in the world. Sylvia had never been simply because its such a touristy thing to do, plus its only open very few weeks of the year so we were lucky to catch it on our trip. It turned out to be such a beautiful way to spend the day and not too touristy - much less crowded and great to wind down after Queens Day. The afternoon saw Craig go and play golf at Noordwijkse golf course while Sylvia and Kellie sat in a cafe on the beach and sipped Ice Teas and relaxed. Once ... read more

In the last week of April I was driving listening to the radio in Ireland. A garden expert was talking about some strange garden in Amsterdam, Netherlands called Guekenhof (Keukenhof). He extolled it dearly. It was May bank holliday weekend, I had not other plans. So I packed up my bags and went to visit Keukenhof. Flew by Rayan airways to Eindovan airport. Unfortunately 31st of april is Queens day and the whole of Netherland goes crazy, celebrating their queen. That means 3 hours extra wait in the bus stand for the Amsterdam connection ! while in the airport met this wonderful Korean girl Mira. Such a pleasant and lovely girl who really captured my goodness. She was a backpacer and just like any other backpacker - she was travelling on shoe string budget. During the ... read more

The area of the present-day Keukenhof used to consist of woods and virgin dunes in the 15th century. People used to hunt there and collect herbs for the kitchen of the castle. Hence the name "Keukenhof" literally kitchen garden. Every spring Keukenhof is a feast for the eye. Millions of tulips and other bulb flowers are then in bloom, a gardener's dreamland. A fantastic experience and a wonderful spectacle to photograph! An overwhelming display of color in a beautiful setting covering an area of 80 acres that incorporates elements of traditional and modern landscape gardening and art. Enjoy the beautiful photography.... read more
