I went to Malta with my mom because there's a place you can swimming with the dolphins. That's always been our dream, since I was little I fell in love with those so intelligent and gentle animals. My mom always gave me presents of dolphins, stuffed, key rings, earings....then when I was 18 I got my first tattoo of a dolphin of course! So when I had the oportunity I took her to the trip of her dreams. See how happy she was, was the best thing ever happened to me. It was great and Malta is a cute city, it's not big and amazing but it's Ok to spent a weekend and the beaches are great!... read more

So if you're just joining in, this is a recap of Malta, as I'm terribly behind in blog posts. Dzl and I headed to Malta as a little Easter vacation getaway just for the two of us. As is the case with these type of vacations, by which I mean, incredible gifts from my parents who give us a week anywhere in the world, we choose Europe so we don't have to fly too far / spend too much, and it turns out to be not quite Mexico-resort-10-star-incredible-ness. (Other examples include Tenerife and Mallorca. We'll learn eventually, I'm sure of it). Now, Malta wasn't bad. We had fun, but mainly it was about relaxing. We read our kindles, drove around in our rental car, and checked out a lot of interesting sites along the way. I ... read more

Last night we had just one plan for today and that was to go to Kalkara and visit Fort Rinella. By this morning we had added to that plan, and that was to go back to Valletta first and check out St John's Co-Cathredral. I had been talking to an ex-colleague who is on secondment to Malta and he had said if we did nothing else in Valletta we shouldn't miss out seeing this cathedral. That thought ate away at us overnight and we we did not want to leave Malta, then say once we were back home that we wished we had gone. There were several main reasons and the first is that hanging in the cathedral is the biggest of Caravaggio's paintings the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist as well as the cathedral ... read more

Europe » Malta » Gozo April 7th 2014

The brochures state Gozo is an island of mystery, history and faith. It also moves to a strikingly different, more leisurely pace then its sister island. This we found to be true! How did we come to be here? While this adventure was in the planning stage I must have spent the majority of my spare time "googling". Through that I came across a slightly more unique way of seeing the island of Gozo then just by a coach - Gozo by jeep! The day started a little slow, in that we were very late to be picked up and we still had more stops at two hotels after ours and with a ferry to catch the van driver was struggling to control his temper over the amount of traffic. The ferry ride across to Gozo ... read more

5 Weeks in Malta The film about my trip for those lazy readers - Being such a small country famous for it's tourist trade I wasn't all that excited to visit but it turned out to be a beautiful place with some really friendly people. I travelled with my mate Rich as we had a couple of filming projects in mind for our Modern Explorers website. The first week we stayed and volunteered (arranged through Workaway) at an eco-friendly village called 'The Vortex' - set up by butwhynot on the West of the island. We met some great people, learnt about off-grid living and did lots of filming with the intention of making a film about the village (which I am c... read more

As soon as I landed in Malta, the relaxing, slow way of life hits you at the airport. Everyone is friendly and nobody is in a mad rush to run you over at the passport counter. The warm air and breezes are relaxing right away, and it just makes you want to run for the water. Right from the first minutes, Malta was inviting. The taxi drive into town took 15 minutes, and the driver was able to joke and tell stories the entire ride. I get dropped off at the hotel near Valletta, and it is great! 3 pools, diving shop at the hotel, 4 restaraunts. Awsome! First thing is first, and after check in, its time to hit the pool and figure out what the adjenda is. Tomorrow is sailing to a small island ... read more

Top of our list of places to go during this year was Gozo, and it was great to be back! It turns out a lot can change in 5 years. On Malta, we noticed everything looks new and improved. The airport has change a lot since we were last here. There are now air conditioned express buses that go from the airport to the ferry terminal, just in time for the ferry. What a treat! On Gozo, the pace of change was not quite as noticeable. But there is a hop on hop off bus there now, which means that tourism must be picking up. And rightly so. We rented a car and 'farmhouse' for the week. For those that have not been to Gozo, farmhouses are really just any house. Ours had a full kitchen, ... read more

Hey guys! Here's my little travel blog for my latest trip to Malta, where I met up with four of my Erasmus friends from Germany last year - Daniel from Malta, Amalie from Denmark, Camilla from Sweden and Onur from Turkey. The trip had been planned for almost a year, and eventually lasted just over a week, with the girls arriving early on Monday morning, before me and Onur arrived on the Tuesday. Until the Sunday we were staying in an apartment in BuÄĦibba, and it was here that I met the guys for the first time in months! Once we had all arrived we took the long bus ride from one side of the country to the other (lasting a massive 10 minutes) to join a beach barbeque for Daniel's friend's birthday. It was here ... read more
