Today Gabby got lost . Well she did not but the sat nav decided to confuse her and us . We put in the co-ordinates for Camping Marina in Tropea . Right by the sea and within walking distance of Tropea town . It should have been an easy drive but for some reason she decided to take us a circuitous route . Not contact with switchbacks up Monte Cassino she started again on our descent to Tropea. Surely there was an easier way to get to the campsite . An ACSI site and one of the few not yet closed. She took us through the town. It was busy . The usual Italian street cafes spilling out in the street. Cars double parked some at impossible angles . Yes, it is July 6th and we are still waiting for a part for the engine in Tsamaya. This means another day trip as thankfully the train travel here in Italy is efficient and very inexpensive. A nearby coastal town is quite touristy this time of year, but we figured “what the heck – let’s go for it”. We caught the train at 8:18 AM and about 20 minutes later we were getting off in Tropea. On our walk down the hill from the station into town we passed the market so walked through but didn’t buy this time as we definitely didn’t want to be carrying fruits & vegetables around all day – it wasn’t only the weight, it was the heat! We flew out of Gatwick on Fri 3rd Oct, arriving in Catania,Sicily in the afternoon, where mum's handbag(with our money,passports and cameras!!) was stolen by scooter bandits who stopped our car!. So we drove straight to Pizzoni,in Calabria, to get to Nonna who was staying there with her Zia Rosa and cousins(Donatella,Arturo,Nicola,Paolo & Ludovica). There were lots of cousins in Pizzoni. About 1000 people live there and nearly everyone we met was a relative! While we were there, we went to the beaches of Tropea & Pizzo, picked chestnuts, played calcio(soccer),and enjoyed the 2 day Fiesta of Madonna del Rosaria(the Madonna of the Rosary),went to school with Paolo, and learnt a few Italian words.... read more
