It is so nice to be nice and have others be nice to you. If you share this thought, come to Ireland! This has been such a wonderful day and one much needed. When we came to Galway, we had no plans--we weren't even sure why we were here except that everyone who has travelled in Ireland said, "You must go to Galway!" So we did and never have we been so glad for random advice. First of all, the B&B we are staying in, Cappa Veagh." was written up everywhere as having two of the nicest Inn keepers in the world. Now, I haven't been around the world, but Catherine and Patrick bend themselves into pretzels to accommodate their guests. Finally some nice weather this week. The Irish have been complaining about what a terrible, non-exisitent summer they are having... thank goodness we didn't come here for the weather. At the end of the promenade on Salthill Beach is a giant diving platform...after much trepidation all three kids jumped (Jake was actually first!) Last night we saw Trad on the Prom which is a huge show of traditional Irish music and dance. It was fantastic. We pulled in the street the other day and I heard "they're home"! I overheard one boy talking to our neighbor say "I hear you have new neighbors and they are Americans!" Not too many Abby's age however she seems content to watch for the wild horses at the fence...our apples keep disappearing. Our doorbell keeps ringing even during dinner. Neighborhood wide games of hide and seek, Sam dribbling a soccer ball (with his hands of course), walks to the corner store for treats, and then last night a bona fide ice cream truck! Biggest difference is it is 50 degrees out in July! Definitely did not pack enough warm clothes. Salthill beach ... read more

After an extremely nice 17thAnniversary dinner out in the Grand Hotel in Tralee we were packed up and ready to leave quite early today. We needed to phone the Caravan Club to change our ferry booking and the doctor to get an appointment to sort out my volatile BP but usual problem with phone calls, just get stuck in the hold queue with irritating musak at 26p a minute ! We stopped after half an hour, in a lay-bye and this time got the Caravan club and sorted out the ferry change. Then when Bob turned the Tandy key to set off again the engine wouldn’t start (the alarm did though !). Oh dear. Engine battery dead as a dodo. But we had the luck of the Irish today. Behind the lay-bye was an electrical ... read more
