Night of 05 May 06 At the orientation that morning I met 2 girls; Sarah and Jacynthe (Jay). We ended up just talking at the orientation and found out that we were in the same hostel and all from Canada and we decided to get together later on so we would know some people in Ireland (we all were traveling alone). We ended up haning out for the rest of the day and then we decided to hit Temple Bar(the bar) in Temple Bar. In a traditional irish bar you would expect to hear a lot of Irish music. This was the case when we first went in, but after 2 songs they started playing music from back home. So the music was a bit dissapointing but it was still good. The bar was packed with people. Our first drink ended up being irish cider. I acctually like it even though it tastes like a mixture of beer and apple juice.. which is really weird for me because I like neither. We met a lot of British people there. One ofwhich was totally loaded and kept on kissing Jay. It was quite amusing. It even got to the point where his
Entertainer in Temple Bar.. he's starting to go
There are a lot of people on the street all over Dublin trying to make some extra cash friends were denying that they were friends. We finally ended up meeting some Irish guys. They were pretty much the first Irish people that we've all talked to since being here. They were very nice. They told us that every Irish person had to have a nickname so they gave us galic nicknames of our own; mine: cait (pernounced cautch), Sarah: Siobhan (pernounced Shibohn) and Jay: Saoirse (pernounced Sorsha). They also taught us an Irish saying which is Chuckie aer Law (I don't know the correct spelling) which means 'our day will come'. It turned out to be a good night!
06 May 06 Today I looked at jobs on the internet. I spent a lot of time in the cafe looking and then applying. After a while I met up with Jay and Sarah and we decided to go look around Dublin. we mostly went around to the shopping area's. There is one store here called penny's. Its an awesome store! They sell mostly clothes but it is dirt cheap. I have to hold myself back though until I start making money. However, I did buy an umbrella since it constantly rains here. We went to a crepe
place for dinner called Lemon. I had a tomato cheese and bacon crepe. It was delicious!!
oh regarding the place to live, Geoff and Ashley decided they are going to stay where they are living now. So that means that I now have to look for a place on my own. That is fine though, there are a lot of places that are renting out rooms especially where some students are leaving for the summer. Sarah and Jay are living together. They got a place to stay just outside of the city center. and its only 65 euros a week with all utilities included. it was an awesome deal!
and they found it and moved in within 24 hours!
The 3 of us decided that we are going to rent a car and travel around Ireland some weekend comming up! that shoudl be exciting! much better than a bus tour because we can decide where we want to go and how long to stay there. One of the places that we are definentally going to see is the Blarney Stone! and make sure we kiss it!
Later that night we went down town. First we went to Geoff and Ashley's
place because there was a bunch of people there who were going out as well. There Sarah and I split our first Irish wiskey. We both really enjoyed it. I think I like it better than Jack Daniels! We were there for a few hours before we went to a bar called Dtwo. It was pretty good I must say! Sarah and Jay never ended up comming out because they had to move out of the hostel early in the morning. Geoff never went out as well because he had to work in the morning. There was a group of like 8 of us that went out though. It was fun but it was 10 euro's cover charge. I ended up spending the night at their house after so I didnt have to walk home. Then I just left the next morning.
07 May 06 First of all for all of you Pigeon lovers out there like Lisa and Vanessa I'm sure that you would be horrified to know that pigeons are very comfortable around people here, so you have to get very close before they will fly off, but then when you get close they fly very close
to you. It makes me kind of nervous because I dont really want a pigeon flying into me! So back to the day I woke up and walked back to the hostel at 9am which was pretty early since I just went to sleep like 2 hours earlier! I had to get up because I had to look at an apartment at 11. The apartment was pretty nice! I would be sharing the room with a girl from Poland. I told her I would give her a call to let her know if I'm going to take it. It was pretty small and only one person could fit in the kitchen. I think I can find something better though. I then had another appointment to look at another place at 1. When I met up with the girl I told her that I would only be there for 3 months and then I found out she was looking for someone more pernament. so I didnt even get to see the place but that was ok. I didnt waste too much of her time then. I ended up meeting up with Sarah and Jay after that and we went looking around
Henry St. One of the main shopping streets on the north side of the city center. After I went back to Sarah and Jays place to see it. They told their land lord about how I was looking for a place to stay and I didnt like living out of my suitcase in the hostel and he said that I could stay there for just a few days or for the whole summer. The only thing is I would be sleeping on the floor on a piece of foam. For a few days that might be ok, but I couldnt do that forthe rest of the summer. I don;t think it would be good for my back either and I think I would get in the way of the girls (the mat would be in the middle of the 2 beds. I'm going to look at 2 more places tommorow so hopefully I will figure things out after that. We took at nap at their place. It really refreshened me especially with my lack of sleep. We then went back into the city center to find a place to have coffee. We've been going out a lot and trying new
and interesting places to eat and have a cup of coffee. (Plus cheap). Tonite we went into a place called the badass cafe. it ended up being a restaurant and they didt have any coffee that you could take to go. But we got something to eat for supper there. We then walked up to Grafton St. (the main shopping street on the south side of they city center) and went to Bewleys which is a famous coffee house here. I had a caramel machiatto ( however you spell that). It was delicious even better than starbucks! They have starbucks here as well! After that we came to the internet cafe. I think the people are starting to recognize me here becuase they have seen me pretty much every day!
Well that is about it for today. oh and today was the most gorgeous day! I was acctually able to wear caprees and a tank top! and it DIDnt rain! first day yet! I think its because I bought the umbrella. If it isnt raining tommorw the 3 of us are going to hand out resumes to stores!
I will add the pics tommorow because the cafe is about to
close!

Hello
Kathleen, Sara's b'day card arrived yesterday (Mon 8th). She was so excited. Thanks. The sidewalk chalk drawings reminds me of the Mary Poppins movie where Bert did that too (as a scriver??). The daughter of a friend of mine is taking harp lessons so I will show her the photo of the lady playing on the street. No living accomodations yet? Can you stay there for the summer or is there a time limit? Have fun. Love Auntie M. :) XXXOOO
