(Rural Ireland = crap wifi once more. I gave up after three photos... sorry.) Yesterday I headed to Galway. Fun times looking for the bus stop since of course Citylink doesn't stop at the bus station... that would be too easy ;) Giving my name to the driver was fun. More accurately, hearing him try to pronounce my name was fun. The drive was uneventful. Passed a few fun things, such as "The Shire" pub which had a giant sign that said: "let's get Legolas" which is just brilliant ok hahaha. (Forgot to mention the other day, one of theoubtain ranges heading oit to Dingle is also called the Misty Mountains since the tops are always in the fog/clouds. LotR is alive and well in Ireland.) I also saw a lot of businesses with "Moriarty" as ... read more

Geo: 52.7107, -8.87897After our flight to Chicago and a six hour layover, we boarded our international flight for Ireland. It was a short night at 35,000 feet and we landed in Shannon excited and ready for the adventure to begin! We were greeted by our tour director Andras who pointed out essential airport features to begin our trip successfully including the restrooms, the nearest ATM, and places to buy bottled water and snacks for breakfast. Then we boarded the bus and set out for Killarney, the quaintest Irish town with multi-colored storefronts, Celtic crests visible in shop windows, and street performers and musicians to add to the bustling scene. Fresh air and sunshine did their best to keep our jet lag at bay and we even enjoyed a horse drawn buggy ride around the city and ... read more

Yesterday I went to the amazing Cliffs of Moher. They were everything that people make them out to be. I couldn't have asked for a better day either, as the skies were clear and the view seemed endless. The Cliffs are 700ft tall and there is nothing keeping you from walking over the edge. The beauty and magnitude is remarkable and the Cliffs are definitely one of my favorite places. I used a tour company to get to the Cliffs and we also made a short stop in Limerick and drove all throughout the Burren. The Burren is an area of rock that covers some 250 square kilometers. It is a place of great beauty in County Clare and shows the rugged terrain of Ireland. Your stereotypical images of the Irish countryside become a reality in ... read more

Saturday, January 10, 2015 - My roommates (Carly, Carla, and Sarah), Amanda (a girl from our apartment complex), and I decided to take a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher which is about an hour and a half south of Galway. We booked a tour through Galway Tour Company which picked us up at a bus station that is about 15 minutes from our apartment. Our bus driver/guide's name was John and he was very comical and shared a lot of information about Ireland and the various towns we passed through. Along the way to the cliffs we stopped for pictures at a few castles and light houses, and had lunch in Doolin which is about 10 minutes from the cliffs. It was a gorgeous drive and I felt like I was in a movie ... read more

Geo: 53.016, -9.37758So this morning I was up early to get packed and out the door. Even though I had only been in Tralee 2 nights I had stuff all over the hotel room, hangovers do not inspire tidiness. I was on the road just after ten and making my way to Tarbert. I was really winging it as I had not done any research on when the ferries leave. Fortunately for me there is one very hour. I had to wait about half an hour for the ferry, and then the trip across the Shannon was only half an hour again. The ferry pulled in at Kilrush and from there I drove to a little place called Kilkee where I stopped for lunch. From there on I think I stopped at every second town for ... read more

As an Irishman you sometimes get lost in all the beauty of Ireland. But sometimes you miss out on one of the great's location for travel in Ireland, Europe and the world in my belief. At the age of 28 was my first trip to the cliffs of Moher. Traveled on this trip by bus, a tour company. Leaving my home town of Cork @ 08.30a.m. As we traveled to the cliffs the driver informed the group about historic facts, most I knew but some where new to me, can't know everything now can I. Travelling along the Atlantic coast, there was some amazing views. The Aran Islands for one as we stopped by the baby Cliffs. As the Atlantic crashed against the rocks below one could get lost in all the incredible views and sounds ... read more

Day 24 - Back in the UK We packed up this morning and said goodbye to the cows and our bucolic time in the county Clare countryside. We drove back to Dublin under gray skies and the threat of rain. It held off until we got the car back to the rental location and then decided to pour. Our trip through Heathrow was much better this time and we made our way back into London and the Royal Gardens Hotel by 6PM. A very nice hotel with a great location thanks to our Disney (DVC) points. Our room has a postcard picture view over Hyde park and Kensington palace. The staff was very welcoming, and even had a goodie bag for Michelle with puzzles and a brownie. When we turned on our TV, it greeted us ... read more

Day 23 - Aran Islands - A trip back in time We started the morning with a good breakfast and some laundry before heading to the west coast and the ferry to the Aran Islands. Anne really wanted to see the islands and the nearby Cliffs of Moher, the home of millions of nesting seabirds. The Aran Islands are 3 islands off the west coast of Ireland near Doolin. The largest only has a population of 900 people. Ferries regularly travel between the islands and the mainland but the 30 min crossing can be quite rough. Today was a "mild" day but still provided a bit of chop and rocking. The ferries were nothing like the ferries across the SF Bay, being much smaller. Michelle and Tony enjoyed standing in the bow watching the waves and ... read more

Day 22 - Wet Caves, Wet Us Today, we decided to explore the area. We first visited Crag Cave, a million year old cave that was discovered in 1983. They are very sure no human has been there before since you had to go 500m into another small cave, then do a 12m dive through a narrow underwater passage to get there, and there are no other entrances. The cave is nearly 2 miles long with 3 distinct passages. The guide was very good, explaining how they can tell the ages of different sections, how the cave was formed, some of the chemistry behind the formations, and some of the history. The most unique thing about this cave is that it is the least disturbed tour cave (or cave of any sort, really) we have ever ... read more

Day 21 - Day Off We really didn't do anything at all today. Anne and Michelle walked, Michelle and Anne watched movies and Anne and Tony read... all day long. Oh, and we listened to the cows and watched them eat the grass and trees 2 feet from our windows. It was glorious.... read more
