Yes, you read that correctly - today I went to the penis museum. If you are offended by photos of penises, don't look at the pictures for this entry. I slept in today because I knew I would be doing alot of walking. My AirBnB is a little east of the city center, but not too far so I decided to walk. I went along the waterfront where a marathon and half-marathon was taking place. I could hear music blaring from somewhere closer to the city center. Today is Culture Day, and there are bands and music all over the city. Some museums are free today, and there is food and food trucks everywhere. Tons of people out walking around, dancing in the square, and kids having mock battles. I went to the Phallus Museum out ... read more

Today our Greenland tour is over. The last 2 weeks have been fun, adventurous, surprising, vigorous, educational, and wonderful. Our small group of 5 plus our leader Jan started out in really small village, visited the Erik the Red settlement, then went to larger villages, hiked in 70 mph wind, took an alternative boat trip to Quarqatog due to the wind, visited a tannery, got on a ferry to Nuuk, had a rainy day in Nuuk, got on a flight to Ilulisat and this is when things got really awesome. We got on another boat to Eqi Glacier camp where we stayed for 2 nights, then took the boat back to Ilulissat. The next day we saw massive icebergs that calve from the most active glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. We had a sunset boat trip ... read more

August 22, 2019 – Djúpivogur, Iceland – Weather: 61°F/16°C, cloudy with scattered showers, wind 10 mph, humidity 86° After crossing the North Atlantic we once again came to the island nation of Iceland. Today’s port of call is Djúpivogur, a small fishing village on the eastern coast. The area was first inhabited by Irish monks followed by seasonal fishermen who eventually stayed and established the port. The village remains today as a processing center for deep sea fishing, aqua culture farms and tourism. As there is no pier in this port we once again had to use the ship’s tenders to go ashore. Tours today were all centered around going out to explore the natural wonders of the area. We opted for a guided walk around the town up to an observation point and then out ... read more

August 10, 2019 –Isafjördur, Iceland– Weather: 43°F/6°C, cloudy all day, rain in am, wind 15 mph, humidity 70° The port of call today is Isafjördur, Iceland which serves as the regional capital of the Westfjörd region. For centuries this port was a major center of commerce and trading for the fishing industry. While fishing is still a major economic force tourism is a growing feature for the future. The area boasts some of the oldest buildings in Iceland, including four wooden structures from the 18thcentury which avoided destruction from fires. Today’stour: Arctic Foxes and Avalanches took us first on a drive along the coast of the fiord through the town of Súðavik, where in the 19thcentury the Norwegians established two whaling stations. The town was partially destroyed in the mid 1990’s by an avalanche; more about ... read more

First day of my trip: both flights were on time, I caught the bus from the airport to Reykjavik (45 minute ride), found my AirBnB, and spent the day exploring Reykjavik. I'm having difficulty pronouncing anything. For example, my AirBnb is on Kjartansgata. I got dropped of on Hateigsvegur. Oh well, most people here speak English so I just show them the map and point to where I want to go. First stop today was the Hallgrimskirkja, the iconic church that is visible from all over Reykjavik. I went up the tower to get a good view of the city. Next I walked through center of town and stopped by the Volcano House. I saw 2 films about volcano eruptions on Iceland. There is a rift zone that goes through approximately the middle of Iceland, which ... read more

Hello everyone! I hope that you are ready for another chapter of this exciting voyage around Iceland. We have been discovered countless attractions in the course of this blog. This country is simply fascinating in all aspects. You can not miss the opportunity to visit and discover the incredible sights and rich culture found in such a remote location like this. I had spent the night in one of the most interesting locations in the north of Iceland, Akureyri. This is a very unique small city that has it all. One of the symbols of this town is Akureyrarkirkja. A beautiful Lutheran church built in the '40s. It is very noticeable from almost anywhere in the city as it lays on top of a hill. I stayed at Hotel Kea that night, which is conveniently located ... read more
