Edit Blog Post
Hello to all again... sorry about the delay this time. Our time in Germany with our family was busy and there was not a lot of time to be spend updating this silly blog (which by the way, I love getting your comments.. I hope you all are enjoying the adventures!!).
So we start in the Frankfurt International Airport, the same day that 3 conspicuous terrorists were caught trying to blow the darn thing up (we of course had already vacated the scene and didnt hear about this until the next morning). Moving along... Andreas, moms cousin, greeted me at the airport, where we waiting for Kirbi and Mom to get off the plane. He brought along a bottle of champange and got the celebration started. We then met up with the rest of our family here... Uncle Heinz, Tante Erika, Burchard, Alex and the kids Anna and Daniel. One request had been made by Andreas.. a little souvenier from Canada.. nothing more then... drum roll PULLEASE.... Presidents Choice Chipotle Stampede Smoke BBQ sauce, since apparently Germany has nothing of the sort. Mom packed one 2 kg bottle and Kirbi packed the other. Go figure.. Kirbi Pitt being the packer
that she is, forgot to wrap her BBQ sauce in a plastic bag and the friggen thing shattered. We are not just talking a little on her socks and undies.. we are talking ALL OVER everything. The next morning when I was blowdrying my hair I had the conspicuous smell of BBQed ribs wafting through my hair. It was dripping out of everything including the hair brushes! After getting everything cleaned up we obviously needed to get Kirbi some new luggage.. hers was kaput!
The following 5 days were spent enjoying many different cities and the "culture" each one had to offer. For those of you who dont know and have never been to Germany, "culture" is referred to as BEER... and yes, they love it! We tried different Kolsch and Pils beers from all the neighboring cities: Bonn, Koln, Hennef (where they live), Siegburg, Koningswinter etc... (There was a LOT of "culture time", its difficult to remember what happened in which town.. oops!). We also climbed up the 509 steps up the Koln Dom, the most amazing cathedral I have seen thus far. Andreas was a little opposed to climbing the steps, and Im sure would have preferred
to have some more culture time, but we dragged him up. We finished our time in Koln with nothing better than a little shopping - Brayd, thanks for picking up the shipment of clothes we have coming home... theres no way it would have fit into my already overstuffed backpack.
We did a boat cruise down the Rheine and saw some beautiful castles and fortresses, we visiting Beethovens house in Bonn and saw where he was born, and of course we visited the Lindt Chocolate factory and sampled some of their new chocolate flavours. Coming soon to Canada: Papaya Chili, Lime Green Peppercorn, Green Tea and Bean, to name a few. The Chili with chocoate seems to be very popular here in Europe and I have to admit, is quite delicious.
When we werent drinking Beer in Germany, we were taste testing all the German delicisies: Currywurst, Goulash, Spiesbratten, Rouladen, Schnitzle, Saurkraut, the most delicious German breakfasts supplied by Alex and Andreas (still to be beaten), Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate, and anything else butter and baked you could think of. We are still stuffed and trying to walk off the few extra pounds that may have slipped onto our
thighs.
All in all, our time in Germany was so memorable and seeing our family was priceless. I think we have enough reasons for them to come back to Canada (cough cough.. I think we have a list, dont we Andreas and Alex??). Hopefully next time the weather will be a little warmer though. It really wasnt a problem though, since the next stop was Italy, where we are now. I'll be updating you all on the first few days in Italy very soon... internet here is rediculously expensive and hard to come by so hopefully once we get to Pisa or Tuscany it will be better!
All the best to everyone.. keep me informed on your lives.. I love hearing about what's going on!
Love Meghan (and Kirbi and Mama) xoxo

Deutschland uber alles !!
Hi Gals !!! Its so great to hear from you. Got your postcard Megs. Thankyou so much for thinking of us. We love getting mail !! Looks like you gals are off to a good start. Nothing like German GEMUTLICHKEIT to get you off to a good start. Just have to let you know that summer is finally here !!! Its been about 29 degrees the last few days and a good high pressure system to keep it that way for awhile yet. Hey I am off to Errington tonight to sign up to go back to school for the next few months. I will end up with my Certified Master Organic Gardener Certificate !! How does that title grab you ? Its being offered close by so I better take advantage. Then I can go teach at North Island College in January. Sabine we got the fireplace out no problem Thanks again. Bryne has been harnessed to the roof the last few days. One side is done, now the other. By noon it is too hot to be up there. Justine is back on Hornby working. Shes had some real trials lately with some of the staff but seems to be working things out and hanging in there. I'll tell you about it when you are home. Have had so many people comment on my blond look that I don't know what to say anymore. It seems to have convinced a few other women with the same issue to go blond as well. As always Sabine you make me look good !!! Thanks. Can't wait to hear how Italy is and what you are all eating and drinking !! See if you can gather up a few great recipes for us to try. Look forward to hearing more from you all when you have some time. Love you but feel so connected with this email and internet stuff. Its GREAT !!!!! Bye for now. Schlaff gut !! Barbara
