Train Station
We're getting ready to go to Frankfurt. Train station in Rodgau. Trip to Frankfurt
YEA!!! We slept in! That was really nice.
We staggered down the stairs in groups. Lee and I were in the middle of the pack. Will came in last. Ate breakfast, got dressed to go to Frankfurt for the day.
It was decided that we'd take the train as it would be easier than finding a parking space in Frankfurt. Annya led us to the train station; we had to wait just a bit for the train and off we went.
We were like little kids when we got off the train. Wow! Look at that! Take a picture. Over there. Wait look over here. Old buildings and new buildings mixed together. Different types of shops and outdoor cafes. Tdom Bah led us to an Eastern Indian store. Lots of beautiful fabric. Perfect for new skirts, shirts and t-dresses. And we were just a block from the train station.
Walking on, but not too far, we decided we were hungry. That may be the “royal we” of our group, excluding Jackie and Tdom Bah. Not to say they didn’t eat when we ate, but they probably could skip a meal or two and
Train to Frankfurt
This is so much better than 8 in a van. we just can’t. Some for medical reasons, some for just plain ole’ hunger. So we sat down and ate at a Turkish café … coke light with ICE, doners (spit roasted meat) either with or without bread, looking for iced tea, but they only serve it with sugar. But we manage. And they do charge for water. I guess that’s because they put a little lime and lemon twist in the glass.
We got back on our way. Tdom Bah wanted to take us to the Euro bank, where the Euro was invented and take pictures at the big Euro sign in the front of the building in a little park. There was a pretty steep grade going down to the sign, with dips in the walkway with grates. One of the grates apparently wasn’t flush with the walkway and one of Mariah’s wheels got stuck, the handle of the wheelchair slipped off and Mariah went tumbling. Two good things .. She didn’t get hurt and saved her camera held high (which is what she so worried about). Reminded me of falling out of Kim’s bed and saving the computer!!!
Not to worry. Mariah’s was fine. Everyone else
worried enough for all her relatives. She did a great arm roll and practically bounced back into her chair.
We continued, looking for Frankfurt’s zentrum (center). We found it. Cobbled streets, pedestrian walkways. Old churches, souvenirs, the river, old ancient Roman walls, ice cream cones, faux Trading Post. “We’re walking,” was the phrase of the day. “Where’s” so and so? Where did they go? Where are those boys??? (Note that there was never “where are the girls.” )
Johnny discovered an old, old, old church (1150) that had awesome acoustics. He suggested we go in and sing. We did and Tdom Bah recorded us. It sounded really good. I mean it sounded really good!!!
Tired, we decided to head back to Rodgau because we had a dinner date with them. They wanted to take us all out to eat dinner at the restaurant of one of the sponsors of the pow wow. We took a detour down another pedestrian mall, and then went to hunt for a way to get Mariah down to the train station.
We watched Mariah, Will, David, go up and down and then up and down the glass elevator trying to get
Yep, Train Again
We're almost to Frankfurt. to the correct level. We finally got the group back together … now this has been an event in itself. I think we need one of those big yellow flowers on top of a stick like the tour guides use to keep their groups together.
We had to switch trains on the way home due to a train malfunction. But we finally made it back to Rodgau, late, and ate dinner. Our hosts wanted to take us out to eat at a restaurant owned by one of the sponsors of the pow wow. Do you know that they serve rice and French fries together? … they first put some sort of Spanish rice down on the plate and then French fries on top. They eat a LOT of French fries here!
Our last night in Rodgau. We were beat but still had to get packed and ready to leave to our next destination in the morning.
