Dachau Concentraion Camp
We had really good traffic on the way to Munich so Mecha and Rocket let us go to the Dachau Concentration Camp. I felt really weird about coming here as I get really bad feelings about this sort of stuff.
When we walked in the front gates I felt like vomiting. The continued with me for the hour that we had there. It was fucked up. Really fucked up.
The Dachau Camp was the first Concentration Camp built in March 1933. It went under reconstruction in 1937-38 and more was added. The camp was meant to store 6,000 prisoners. When the camp was liberated April 29th 1945, the camp was completely overfilled with about 32,000 prisoners.
It had a perimeter that comprised of 2 walls, a moat and a ditch. There was 7 manned guard towers that would automatically shoot as soon as anyone crossed the boarder line. Some prisoners would run into the boarder strip on purpose to end their suffering.
The gas chamber was desguised as a shower and equipped with fake shower sprouts to mislead the victims and prevent them from refusing to enter the room. It would've taken about 15-20minutes to
kill about 150 people.
The barracks were designed to house 200 people at once but they often held around 2,000. It was fucked up. Seriously fucked up.
I don't really have much more to write about the place. Again, pictures will give you a better impression of what it looked like and how scary it was.
The temperature was completely boiling even just standing out there so I don't know how the fuck people who were severly beaten and malnutritioned were actually expected to work.
Anyway...enough of that.
Munich
Next stop Munich. We only had about 2 hours to explore Munich as our time was shortened due to our visit to the concentration camp. Munich was relaly nice. In terms of sight seeing, there wasn't really a lot to do except see the Glockenspiel and a few churches.
I walked around with my two room mates Brendan and Mark and went to Frauenkirche chuch which was supposedly built by a man on behalf of the Devil. Folklore says The Devil supposedly asked for no windows puit the man put some windows in with pillars in front of them. The devil got mad and came in and
stomped his foot down. I've taken a photo with my foot in the Devils footprint (my foot was acutally bigger then it) and something pretty wicked happened. Again, you'll have to wait until I upload the photos.
We went to Hofbrauhaus beer hall. Hitler did quite a few beerhall rallies here. The tiles on the floor were actually in the shape of Swastikas. It was weird. After that we went to watch the Glockenspiel which was 10 minutes of my life that I want back.
Our hostel was the shittest hostel so far. The locks were really hard to open, room wa stiny, you had to keep pressing the shower button as it only gave out wated in 30 second flows.
Beerhall
Next was the beerhall. This fucking kicked ass. Mecha showed us this song that the German guys would play all night and everytime they played it, our entire tour got up sung it and smashed our beer glasses into each other shouting "PROUST"(cheers in German) at the top of our lungs. The band played that Proust song, a new song, then the Proust Song over and over again for the majority of the night. I
had an alright vege meal, but I felt real bad for Claire as she couldn't eat hers because it had cheese in it (she's lactose intolerant).
The barmaid would carry our 12 steins to the tables all in one go. It was fucking impressive as the glasses were 2kg when full. What a ruthless bitch.
I met some girl who had stolen a glass from the beer hall and had it up here dress. It was hilarious. I went around telling everyone she put it up her vagina.
On the bus back we partied it up. Everyone was in the aisles dancing and stuff. It was awesome. It was Leslies birthday and he got up and sung to Bon Jovi. hahaha so awesome.
Well, off to Austria tomorrow. I've decided to man up and go Para Gliding...that'll be interesting..
