Well it’s been a while since my last update, thankgod you say, last one was a big one. I,m feeling really well and it actually feels like home here, must have well and truly settled now - just minus all my family and friends %-/ So what has happened since then? Well a lot of it was that long ago I can’t really remember, how time fly’s when your having fun!! The time is absolutely flying by at the moment, I feel like I haven’t really stopped and I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend, maybe it’s just that our partying at Oktoberfest has taken me this long to recover!!
Oktoberfest was awesome, lots of fun! It was so much bigger than I actually imagined. I wasn’t expecting loads of rides and carnival grounds spread out over acres & acres. We stupidly booked an overnight Megabus trip from Edinburgh to London to depart from our tour on the Thursday night, had to kill 5 hours on the Friday after a terrible bus trip and then meet up with our tour group to get the ferry from Dover to Calais for yet another overnight trip. NEVER AGAIN!! One overnight trip I
can handle but 2 was just too much. If only I’d known when I first booked it, on the positive we did save $. The Munich weather was beautiful, actually hot. We arrived in Munich on the opening day of Oktoberfest at our camp grounds around 8:30am, quickly refreshed found beloved tent and it was back on the bus straight into town to grab ourselves a beer tent table.
At Oktoberfest if you don’t have a table, you don’t have beer. Our first day is spent outside at the Lowenbrau. The opening parade starts around 11:30 and the beer fest opening bell is rung at 12.. as soon as the bell goes ding’ the beer wenches are running around like crazy madman…how these woman manage to hold 10 steins is beyond me. Steins are 1litre.. so basically we sat in the sun outside from about 10:30am to 8:30pm drinking litre steins, needless to say we had a great time and was home and passed out in our tent by 9:30pm. We had met up with some other people we know so was cool to have people to hang out with. It was absolutely freezing overnight in the tents, felt
like I was in training to become an Eskimo!! Up bright and early the next morning, we head out to the concentration camp at ‘Dachau’. It was really cool to see and at the same time quite disturbing and eerie, really brings to life the history and torture that these people went through. Afterwards we head back into the festival grounds, feeling a little dodgy so thought we would start the drinking a little later, wondered around checking out the sights and different beer halls, went on a few rides and brought a few things and then met up with the gang in the Paulaner Beer tent for another sesh! Things get a little crazy in the beer halls, great atmosphere and dancing on tables with complete strangers. Later on we’re all very merry and decide going on the dodgems and rides is a good idea. Later on Kate & I make friends with a couple of Dutch old couples, the guys wanted to go on some rides but the wives were too scared so we offer to go with them on the free fall tower of terror type ride, except it’s not so scary, the good news is that
I managed to keep all the beer down, LOL.
On Monday morning we have a bit of a later start and a big fry up brekky, one massive cook tent erected to feed all the topdeck 300 and odd tents full of people. We head into Munich town for a walking tour and then a couple of other aussie girls and ourselves head into the Hofbrau beer haus in town for a pork knuckle lunch and one last beer stein. We also manage to fit in a chocolate coated strawberry skewer - so many different things to try %-)
So it’s another overnight bus trip back to Calais and then a morning ferry over to Dover. Thankgod we had a flight from London back to Edinburgh - we are seriously lacking sleep and I think my body needs to go into detox very soon!!
So it was straight back to work the next day, struggled big time!! Kate’s mum and sister arrived the next night from OZ for a visit so we spent the wkd catching up and going to watch the AFL grand final. In between all this I’d been trying to get the phone on
in our flat and it’s official - BT are the worst company in the world to deal with - they do not know the meaning of the word customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go forward a few weeks and I finally have the phone on, I’m scared to try and get the internet for a while if it means I have to ring them again. So then it was my birthday and being so tired and drinking enough at Oktoberfest t last me a lifetime I had a relatively low key b’day. Went out for dinner and had some yummy Japanese - so good to finally have some different food! Also had a phone call from my family on conference singing happy birthday and dying to tell me the exciting news of my brother getting engaged, so CONGRATULAIONS TO BILLY & LEONA!! They made me cry at work, soooo embarrassing!
Anyhoo, then went on a road trip on the weekend with the aussie visitors in the search of Nessie yet again, think next time I do a road trip it will be in a different direction, seen the same things a few times now. Went through St.Andrew’s where there was actually a
comp on the place was mobbed and I do believe Mr.Samuel L Jackson and Hugh Grant were in town.and the Cairn Gorms and on Sunday stopped at my cousin Susans for dinner.
In between all this I,ve been trying to make the most of my gym membership and tonight had a swim and a sauna. Yesterday it pished down with rain and today it was absolutely beautiful. The guys at work keep telling me I’m lucky because normally it’s a lot cooler at this time, must be that thing called ‘global warming’!
So this weekend Kate is heading to Paris with her mum and sis to hang out with Mickey at Euro Disney and I’m heading out to Kennoway Disney to hang out with the family to stop and relax - can’t wait!!
Apart from that trying to save money for the rest of our travels. We are heading to Prague at the end of November and London in early December to catch up with some of the gang from our Europe trip and then Egypt in January before Kate heads home. And dare I say it but Christmas is only 2 and a bit months away
- now that’s scary %-)
So I hope everyone at home is doing well!! I,m missing home heaps!
xoxo
