A Newborn and his Mama
This little one is only 10 minutes old Another unexpected diversion in life - and my trip - has taken place.
I was only in Berlin about 10 days last summer before having to rush back to the states. It turned out to be nothing life threatening, thankfully, but it was better I was stateside to get some medical tests done. I stayed through autumn and on November 1st headed north to Vancouver Island, Canada to volunteer on a farm for a couple of weeks. I was fortunate to be able to be there during the birth of two calves (although, just my non-luck, I missed both
actual events by mere minutes). I had a short time to explore other parts of BC before spending a week on a friend's farm in rural southern Iceland, and although it was by then the end of November, the weather was pretty nasty and I never even came close to experiencing the Northern Lights. Another time.
This brings me to Germany in December, where this time I met up in Munich with just my father. The two of us, along with a rental car and plenty of warm winter clothes, took off for a couple of
Catchin' Calves
A few days after coming into the world, this little guy was running around the pen (until I managed to catch him!) weeks for points south. We spent time in villages, cities, with friends, with now-new friends, the rain, the snow, the mountains, and even dipped in to Austria a couple of times. We gorged on Kaffee und Kuchen, Wiener Schnitzel (one must have the real thing when in Salzburg) and plenty of German sausages. We consumed a fair amount of Glühwein to keep us warm in the chilly winter air. We met with relatives and friends and shared many a smile and conversation with the locals.
It was a winter with little snow but plenty of chill. This didn't stop us from exploring and enjoying Bavaria and her peaky mountains, the magnificent Alps.

Iceland and Gemany
While I was in Iceland, our young woman guide said, "if you're ever lost in the Iceland forest, just stand up!" Nice you were able to be with your Dad on that cold, cold holiday.... Dolores
