Off we go to France in search of lots of late summery sun to charge us up ready for the winter months. The 2 months since our last Tandy trip seem to have flown. Goodness knows where but there’s been gardening, visits to Gloucestershire, glass making, Bob’s birthday, family visits, days out with the younger grandchildren (mine) and the wedding of Matt, one of Bob’s. 9 weeks gone in a flash with lots of lovely sunshine mixed in with some not very summery grey. The wedding was only last Friday so after that we had 2 days to shop, pack Tandy and get everything tidied up and ready. Garden watered (as still have some lovely dahlias in full bloom, a glut of tomatoes in the greenhouse, sunflowers just waiting for a bit more sun and generally ... read more

Said our goodbyes to Janet and Eric who were also leaving to get their ferry home. We had another full driving day across Normandy to get within spitting distance of our chunnel crossing tomorrow. Back the way we had come to Caen, heading East and then Bob managed to find a route over the Seine bypassing Rouen (a place we avoid when we can as we’ve had a couple of problems there in the past). A far more interesting drive today as we went through rather than round lots of pretty Normandy villages. Pont D’Eveque is always a pleasure to drive through, albeit very slowly today as Monday is market day. It was also tractor day on the roads and we found ourselves behind quite a few along the way. That time of year. We bypassed ... read more

After all it’s now more than 2months since we got back from our Vietnam / Bangkok trip and tans are starting to fade. We seem to have been very busy between then and now. When I’m not making glass, I’m whizzing down the motorway to visit my Baddeley family and Bob has been doing more development of his railway in the loft. Travelwise we’ve had a 4 day trip in the Tandy to Dorset, just after Easter, when we stayed near Charmouth and scootered into Lyme Regis and Beer. Not forgetting the weekend camp in Alton with Liz and Graham. We have a new scooter which we tried out on the Dorset trip. A bright white Kisbee. The Diesis was lovely and loyal but it was getting older, we are heavier and the poor thing was ... read more

So far so very good. All the rain which has fallen has fallen when we have been inside and a couple of times has kindly waited until we were just safely back inside before landing. We are beginning to feel blessed. We had a very short drive to our next stopping stop at Le Crotoy on the Baie de la Somme. Bob chose a scenic country route to get there, which was lovely, as the countryside in this part of northern France is beautifully pastoral with lots of neat and tidy villages filled with attractive buildings and an abundance of flowers. We stopped to fill up with fuel (diesel) which works out at over 20p less than in the UK and I popped into the Carrefour for a few French essentials, cooking wine, wine for ... read more

Forgot to name our very nice campsite : ** L’Aubepines at St Firmin ** Excellent start to our trip. Despite rain on and off all night, when we woke we could see pretty blue sky through the bedroom roof light and it stayed remarkably good and warm all day. Scooter out of the garage and off we went to Le Crotoy. This is just a couple of miles from the campsite and on the northern edge of the Baie de Somme. We parked by the harbour and went for a walk round, along the beach, admiring the lovely, very Norman, architecture. Some very pretty buildings and also a very pretty walk as the sky was blue, the clouds puffy and white and the sun warm. We found our way to the station for the Chemin de ... read more

Surprised last night, that following a rather glorious, if brief, sunset, it then rained all night. Heavy Pitter patter on the roof of a motorhome is really rather loud ! No problem, we had to be up at 6.30 (trusty alarm clock, used only a couple of times a year comes in handy again) and away by 7am to catch our early ferry. This was the P&O 8.10 – the latest we could catch and still get super low fare (£76.58 return Dover / Calais for a motorhome + 2 adults is cheap !). The ferry port was heaving when we got there and for the first time ever we had to queue. We had not allowed a lot of extra time and were getting a bit concerned after queuing for more than half an hour ... read more
