paris
definition of classy. chilling on the seine Today I would have to reluctantly leave Switzerland. If I had known how much I would have enjoyed it I would have spent more than 3 nights here but it is time to move on. It also helps that I am pretty excited to meet up with Pat tonight in Paris. I got a little scare when I went to the train station in Interlaken this morning and asked to book tickets on to Paris. The woman working the counter then sternly informed me that this was the high season and often you have to book a week in advance but she would check for me just in case something was open. Yeh, something was open. The exact train I wanted departed right away. Not really sure what she was trying to do to me but it didn't work ha. Caught my train to Basel, had a little layover there where I bought a bunch of candy to get rid of my Swiss Francs (just switch to the Euro already) and boarded my train on to Paris.
Got pretty lucky since I ended up in a 4 person compartment with these three kids from Iowa who happened to need a
pat
hanging with pat on the river. good times 4th for their card game so I ended up just hanging out playing cards with them for most of the 3 hour train ride. One girl was actually from the town where the "Field of Dreams" is which we thought was pretty funny since it is the only thing I know of in Iowa. I have ended up meeting a decent amount of people from the Midwest this trip and they really are the nicest, most mild mannered people you will ever meet. Once again, its funny when your preconceptions are matched by what and who you meet. Said goodbye to the Iowa gang and made the quick walk from Gare Est to the hostel where I was meeting Pat. I was trying to explain to the manager that I needed a bed here when Pat stepped in from out of nowhere to explain that I was the guy he was holding a bed for. It was definitely great to see Pat and get a chance to hang out with him in Paris.
Got situated pretty quickly and we made our way down to the Seine to have a few drinks and just catch up on everything. Had some
seine
seine cheap champagne after blowing the top of the bottle almost halfway across the river hah. Just a glorious evening to sit out on the banks and relax as many Parisians were doing the same thing. The time went pretty quick and soon we needed to go find a bar to watch the US-Ghana match. I am just going to skip talking about that cause that game was just depressing and I am going to pretend it never happened. Had a good night roaming the nearby area before returning to the hostel. I wish you could see the beds in this place. They are just wide enough to lay on and if you are lucky like Pat or I you get the top bunks with no railings ha. Pretty sketchy but whatever. Good times so far in Paris.
