arch
the bigger and better arch. Checked out of the place with the amazingly small beds today and made our way over to Gare Nord so we could throw our bags in the locker until we met my Dad at his hotel tonight. From there it was just a quick walk for Pat and I over to the Montmartre area. The area used to be a bohemian neighborhood but from what I can see it is just overrun by tourists now. It is most well known for the church that is perched up on a hill called Sacre Couer. The outer façade is quite nice but the interior is the same as everything else I have seen, blah. It’s worth the trip for the views of the city which are pretty amazing. Especially since there are no high rises in the downtown area to serve as eye sores. Pretty brilliant idea and its cool that they have continued with it for so long.
From there we picked up another cheap lunch of a baguette, cheese, salami and knock-off Orangina and headed down to the gardens at the Louvre for a relaxing lunch. I have been quite lucky with the weather over here and today was no

view of paris from the sacre cour exception. I am glad there was a bunch of other people sitting out on the lawns eating and picnicking since I would have felt awkward sitting out alone in these well maintained gardens with sculptures all around.
Next stop was the Musee D’Orsay which may be my final museum on this trip. I really do have some inkling of an appreciation for fine art and do enjoy a number of paintings and what not when I go but I can only be in these places for so long. I think it is just time to give up on these and spend my time elsewhere. This museum is well laid out and the building (old train station) is quite a setting for these famous pieces but it is just too crowded and just cannot hold my attention I guess. Plus you can’t take any pics. Seriously, half the reason I go to these places is to brag to other people about what I have seen. How can I do this genuinely without the pictures? Some security guard even made me delete one of the pics I took. Luckily he didn’t see the ten others I got right before it or
cour
sacre cour he would have flipped.
Got our bags back at the train station and made the long metro trip out to La Defense to meet my Dad at his hotel. Going to be nice to live in style for a few days while Dad/his company foots the bill. Moving up in the world like the Jeffersons. Had a good meal at a nearby Italian place and caught up on everything going on which was nice. Great to see Dad and Pat again and relax with a few beers (Your loss Leslie ha!). Unfortunately Pat heads out pretty early in the morning for the Riviera but we’ll see if we can meet up again. To each his own trip and I know that so Au revoir.
