Bergerac and the worst news ever about the passing of our Queen After leaving the Chateau we are on the road again, this time to Bergerac and guess what not a bad journey with Goose using the Sat Nav and you guessed it the trusty old map. Now whenever I think of Bergerac I think of the TV programme where there were murders so it’s good that Goose is getting better at navigating otherwise who knows what would happen - there could be a new big patio next to the motorhome and no sight of Goose! Whilst driving I get the alert that we need some AdBlue - well this motorhome seems to drink AdBlue as if there’s no tomorrow and we are forever filling it up or so it appears. So we stop at a ... read more

Super day out today. Apologies for rather a lot of photos but we went to so many super places it's too hard to chose what to show here so ended up with an overload. I highlighted Issigeac on the map as recommended yesterday as a lovely village to visit though it is most famed for a superb Sunday market and this was not Sunday. Then circled 2 more places along the route and off we went. Lovely drive even without the specific villages as this is such pretty countryside. Issigeac first. No market but that meant we could wander far more freely and take photos without having to avoid accidentally including anyone. We had a really lovely stroll around, there are some wonderful buildings, some dating back to the 12th century. In Alsace there are pretty ... read more

What a lovely day we have had. We were invited to visit friends for a long leisurely lunch at their gite in Lamonzie, near Bergerac. When I say friends we had never actually met but had been talking to each other on Facebook for 2 1/2 years as we are both sellers on the same online platform. Such a pleasure to find we got on really well and our husbands hit it off right away too. Lunch was on the patio, in the shade as it was Hot and lunch was perfect, salad and cheese and all sorts of lovely French nibbles. Then it was pool time and have to say the rest of the day was spent in and around the pool, swimming, chatting and keeping cool. Had a pretty amusing hour which I will ... read more

Today we visited Bergerac. We have stopped off here for an hour when driving past in the motorhome some years ago but never explored properly so a must for a day out today. Stifling hot from the moment we got up and in fact temperature went to at least 42 degrees at one point which is over 100 F. A pleasant drive, 45 minutes or so and once in town we followed signs to a carpark. Delighted to find outselves under cover and pretty close to the historical old centre. Then we explored first of all near the cathedral where there was a market, always lovely for a stroll round. Instead of bunting the norm now in this area seems to be big plastic decorations, brightly coloured, butterflies, flowers. It looks absolutely delightful strung along in ... read more

Geo: 44.8533, 0.48295We had the choice of going to Saint-Emilion or Bergerac and has we had never been to Bergerac we chose that tour. It is a lovely small town on the river with tudor type houses in the oldest part. There are two statues of Cyrano de Bergerac despite the fact that he was never there and took his name from the Chateau Bergerac owned by his parents. There is also a tobacco museum as the place used to be really into growing tobacco. We didn't go to this, instead we wandered around and came across a delightful shop selling Pate de Fois and Montbasillac which we tasted before buying. On the river there are special flat bottomed boats because the river is so tidal the boats have to cope with high and low tides. ... read more

It is that time of the trip when I think “hump”. We have reached the midway point and from now on it is only downhill all the way back to home. We are in that awful position of not knowing what to do next or where to head for. We have gained a couple of days and we always find ourselves wandering about trying to find interesting things to fill our time with. We are also mindful that we are still a long way from the tunnel and have to remember just how long it takes to traverse France. If we get it wrong we find ourselves too near with nothing to do or too far away and miss our connections. So where did we find ourselves? Heading for Bergerac with the hope that the campsite ... read more

Today we went to the charming town of Bergerac. The ride to this town on the motor coach was about 1 1/2 hours which seemed like a long journey. About 30 minutes in we stopped for a 'technical stop' or 'happy stop' or 'Water closet' or restroom...we thought the technical stop was quite funny. Upon our arrival we were given a walking tour by our guide. Quite a bit of history over the centuries with war between French and the English and then the Christians and the Protestants. After our walking tour, we head to a restaurant that Susan made reservations for lunch. We walked a few short blocks and located the restaurant, L'Imparfait restaurant. We were seated outside under an umbrella and the matre d' pulled out the chalk board with the 3 course pre ... read more

Dan, Anita, Cherie, Neil and Karilyn headed off to Bergerac Airport to drop Cherie off for her to fly back to the UK. It has been lovely having her and it surely must have been great for Karilyn to have her girls with her for her birthday. While they did that, Jo, Gary, Lindsay and I went to Bergerac and met the others a little later at the Information Centre where we picked up information for tomorrow and what to see in Bergerac today. There was a walking tour that you could do in the town so we did that. Bergerac is not a large city and it was nice not to have to find our way around something large. It sits across the Dordogne River with an Old Town (as usual) on one side. There ... read more

Going for six days to Bordeaux, I wanted to see something more. Thus, I decided to check out Bergerac two hours train ride from Bordeaux and into the countryside. Bergerac is perhaps most known for the famous poet Cyrano de Bergerac, who though very adept in the art of poetry himself has become popular culture through Edmond Rostand's story of him and his big nose. Even more famous after Gerard Depardieu played him in the 1990 movie Cyrano de Bergerac. But Cyrano de Bergerac's actual life didn't really involve the drame of falling in love with his cousin and being embarrased by the size of his nose, though he might have had an affair with her. The town of Bergerac is a middlesized French town with approximately 28000 inhabitants many of which are English. It is ... read more

To really experience France and visit as many places as possible in a short amount of time, Hannah and I organised a road trip across South-West France. And since Hannah and I had already been to many parts of the road trip we made sure to include a few places we’d never been. However before we hit the road we were meeting Hannah’s parents at their house in Bergerac for a few relaxing days in the beautiful French countryside. Our Ryanair flight from Stansted arrived into Bergerac midafternoon, we were met by lovely warm weather and Hannah’s dad waiting to pick us up from the airport. For my parents it was their first real experience of France, having only visited briefly while travelling through to Bruges a few weeks ago. We met Hannah’s mum at the ... read more
