well, i've had a big few days km's wise which is good. was starting to panic that i wouldn't be making my average so i think have been over compensating a little... since have my speedometer installed i've done 314.79km. the average for the last 3 days has been 99km. damn. so what have i seen. this is where i would insert punctuation like question marks but am again stuck with a keyboard that i can't for the life of me work out and am getting frustrated in the process so am opting for ...no punctuation. also, the shift key's not working, can't find the at symbol, arrows don't move etc. you get the drift. back to what i've seen. a LOT of forest. a fair share of dirt road. countless farm houses. not many signs ... read more

Our last stop in Estonia was Pärnu, affectionately known to locals as "Estonia's Miami." Truth be told, on a cool day at the end of tourist season, it felt more like Estonia's Hyannis, which is actually a bit more my speed. We checked into our room for the night, which was as spotless as we'd been led to expect, and was perhaps the roomiest accommodation I've had in a hostel. Then we headed out on the town. Lunch was the first order of business. After wandering the downtown's six blocks for a bit, we decided on a place with bar food where we could sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. We both ordered sausages and fries. Mine came cut up like little octopi. It felt like high-class presentation of kid food. After lunch we decided to ... read more

about Parnu - but now in TARTU what with the doom and gloom of the Great Wallet Loss Disaster of Parnu of 2009 - what else to report? did I actually see anything? was there anything worthwhile to see? well, yes, sort of. The main thing it was famous for - they are not still open but the building is still there, down at the Strand/beach - is the Mud Baths - a snap of the pink and white building is hopefully attached. the Russians were big onto spa and mud type things - and as they have relatively occupied the place for 100 years before final independence Parnu became one of a few such places to go for the Russian elite etc. Kuressaare was somewhat the same - and still is - but spa tourism ... read more

Parnu - Estonia - 26 August it is 11.45am as I start this, sitting at an outside table at the Cafe Piccadilly - which is supposedly a wine bar, but which also does minor food and coffee. So I just had some ham and mushroom quiche - for breakfast really, as my hotel, Hommiku Hostel, did not supply breakfast - mid you for 600EKr for a single room one cannot have everything. It was easy enough to go and get pastries and coffee for breakfast after all - this morning was a little savoury but I suppose it is almost lunchtime. The reason for such languid time frame is because I was hoping (with no specific info) that there might be a bus around 11.30 - not only is there not one, the 12 noon to ... read more

i dont think i have ever been this cold in my life. ok, thats probably not true, but holy diver there be a wind a blowin. i'm currently in a little place called parnu, which i'm told is estonia's favourite summer resort. unfortunately, it's late october. or maybe thats fortunately, im not sure. either way, its mighty cold and mighty windy, and there aint many folk about. which is perfect to be honest! for those who dont use facebook, at the end of the film talked about in the last blog christina ricci's prostitute girlfriend got the death penalty, and so she should. she killed many an innocent man! that aint cool! so yeah, im in parnu. i arrived here yesterday at around 3.30ish, and did the usual staggering around the bus station lark looking for ... read more

A super early start - why schedule a popular bus route at 7.45 am? We were somewhat taken aback to discover we would be travelling to Estonias most popular seaside resort by minibus, rather than the spacious coach which had brought us to Kuressare, but it was nice and air conditioned. The journey went quite quickly, and we arrived in Parnu with plenty of time to kill before our evening bus to Riga. Parnu is estonias equivalent of blackpool or bournemouth or somewhere, except its really very nice. We left our bags in the (very small) luggage hold and tottered round the town, through a nice park dedicated to Lydia Koldiua, a bit like the estonian princess diana, and looked round the Parnu new art museum. Pretty interesting collection of modern art and photography housed in ... read more
