Egeskov Slot
Gorgeous moated castle Culture day today as we visited a fine Danish castle. This is in the middle of the island so first we drove down the east coast and played ”who can spot the most gorgeous thatched timber-framed house”. Never seen so many beautiful buildings.
Egeskov Slot is a moated castle dating back to the 1500s and is visually beautiful especially when it is reflected in the waters which surround it. Took lots of photos, from every angle and now have the problem of sorting out the best views. The castle is still inhabited but the rooms open to the public are filled with genuine furnishings and artefacts and our tour was really interesting. The hunting room has lots of mounted heads and up in the attic there is an exhibition of antique toys rather stunningly presented.
Outside the castle there are gardens and parkland to walk in and then we came to the museum area. This has superb displays of transport - fantastic collection of cars, motorbikes, the odd plane or two…. There is another collection in the stables, with the horses, of farming and work tools as well as toys, dolls, fire engines etc. Lots for everyone and we

lovely white alliums with the castle behind stayed for a good four hours and had a lot of fun and enjoyed another day of glorious sunshine.
Mid-afternoon we drove south and west to our next stop at Sandager. We noticed it had got a bit blustery but not how cold it was, until we arrived at the campsite.
Strong, biting wind with everyone walking round huddled into thick jackets against the cold. This being a Friday the weekenders are out in force but don’t think anyone will be using the swimming pool !
We are puzzled as to why there are so few showers in these Danish campsites. Immaculate bathroom blocks on all campsites, lots of loos and wash basins but very few showers. ??
