Hello, so it seems everyone is doing a good job at making sure I dont slack on this thing haha I'll be so glad looking back on it that I didn't, and I really like that everyone back home enjoys it so much.
So this past week and a half I have been very busy with school, the first week of classes I didnt get much work done, everything was still so new here, I was like I cant sit at home and do homework I'm in Copenhagen! But that line of logic didn't last too long as I was hit with two big drafts for papers that I probably didn't spend enough time working on. Balancing work and having fun in the city is hard, so I just have to get used to the routine here. I think the hardest thing is working around the city's schedule. Grocery stores close at 3 on Saturdays and most are not open on Sundays... most department stores, clothing shops, ect close at 5 everyday and are not open on weekends... bars don't get busy until 12-1 in the morning... and although restaurants are open, no one goes out to eat during the
week. The only thing open 24 hours are some of the 711's which is obviously an American store, and it's the funniest thing, at home you think of 711's as kind of cheap and dirty. Here you go in and they are wicked nice and clean, trendy music is blasting, it's like the place to be! They are packed at 2 in the morning with all kinds of people trying to buy their 8 dollar hotdogs, and 5 dollar cans of beer, they are def not cheap like home!
Last weekend I had another little nightime mishap, like I was telling you before, it's very important not to miss the night bus! Another important thing is to make sure you get on the right one! lol That night I had gone out with two friends from school and we ended up going to this venue called the Rock to check out some Danish metal music, which was very good! So after the band we decide to make our way home, Colin was going to take my bus back with me so he could make sure I got home safe, I wasn't sure of the bus number we needed but
I figured it would leave from the same stop that my normal bus does... NOPE! We went into like nowheres land and I saw a bunch of highways that I had never seen before, so I panic and we just get off at the next stop. Our plan was to just wait for the next bus going back into the city, but who knew how long that would take! We are so lucky because Colins Danish roomate called about 5 minutes later, he was leaving his friends house and he has a car, so he came and picked us up. I tried really hard to pronounce the street I lived on but he had no idea what I was saying, so I ended up sleeping at their place on thier couch. So it all worked out, I learned my bus number, I had a warm place to sleep, and Colins roomate even made us breakfast in the morning!
During the week, besides going to classes I would mostly just wander around in the city, find some new place to buy a 6 dollar coffee haha and just check things out. One day we made a visit into Christiania which

They turned this square into an ice rink! sounds like a nice pleasant humble town, but it's really a hippie bum town that has a lot of drug problems. It used to be a navy base or something like that and then hippies took it over and they are independent of the EU even though they are in the middle of Copenhagen. All in all it's really not a bad place, the people are very pleasant they have a few really good organic and vegan cafe's, all their houses have gorgeous artwork and a few people have horses and other animals. It's probably the most wooded place I've seen so far, so I'm excited to go back there in the spring. So even though I said drug problems it's not like Brooklyn drug problems, it's just a bunch of hippies that like their hash. haha to put it bluntly. So it's not dangerous in the least bit. They dont allow you to take pictures there, even though they are independent of the EU Denmark's police still go there a lot . Once we got away from the center of town, Tom did manage to sneak in a few pictures so I'll put them up here so you see
what I mean, it's hard to describe.
One of the best things about my school is that I get to take this class at a Danish University, there are only 4 of us from DIS that get to do that. There are a lot of international students at this school but only a few Americans. It's by far my best class, and the professor is awesome. He's from the states but he has a wife here and has been living here for 11 years. It's such a great opportunity to meet Danes our own age, already I have met a bunch of people through this class. Its a lot of fun after lecture everyone goes to hang out in the cafeteria, Friday a bunch of us went there and got to sit down and have a beer with our professor! That would never happen back at home, never! I loved it though, being able to have a good conversation with him and get to know him, it's really a great thing. We just stayed around the University for the night, went to a really nice bar/lounge thing with this Danish guy that Tom had met before, he was really
awesome, probably the first Danish person I met who really went out of his way to talk with us and teach us things, he was really funny and very honest. Most Danes are very proud of their country, which they should be, so they are not as open to talk about some of their problems, but like any society Denmark is not perfect!
Yesterday was a very laid back day, I found this beach to go hang out at, and I met Tom and his friend Jeremy there. We got there at just the right time to catch the sunset. You get a perfect view of the wind turbines too! Denmark has the largest wind farm in Europe, I want that in Rhode Island! We got some really good pictures that I put up on here.
Well I think that's all I got for now, today I'm meeting up with my friends Alison and Leah to plan out the third week of our travel break. It's nice to have other people to travel with, Leah wants to go to Greece which I think sounds amazing! My friend Hannah spent a semester there so I'm sure she could give
us some insight. I haven't been anwhere besides New England and Denmark so I'm pretty open, I want to go everywhere!
This blog makes it sound like I drink a lot and smoke hash hahaha but I swear I dont!!
I'll talk to you all soon, I miss you so much!!
Love you!!
