Hi everyone!
Well, I'm just about caught up on the blogs! Whew!!!! It's now Thursday afternoon and I have about an hour before a quick bite to eat and then off to the Slovak Philarmonic!
We arrived in Prague on Tuesday evening. We flew at night, which is a rare thing on this tour, but I did manage to catch the phenomenal sunset from the plane (actually, Susan took the picture for me! Thanks, Susan!). We got into the airport and were met by a group of familiar, and happy, faces......the local tour guides (Renate and team). They are so efficient and helpful! On the buses and off to our hotel. We are staying at the Prague Marriott, which is just 20 minutes from the airport and is situated at the gate of the Old Town Square. (www.marriott.com) and.......I LOVE MY ROOM!!!!! Fabulous bed, awesome pillows, a pretty good shower (it's actually quite good, but I just haven't figured out how to adjust the shower head.......it's one of those "rain shower"-type-heads). This trip has been a real lesson on different bathroom features around the world, that's for sure!
Once again, I have very high speed internet access, in
my room, which enables me to relax, have a cup of tea, blog to my heart's content and clear my camera for the next adventure. And it really has been one fantastic adventure after another! Sincere thanks to the team at Travel Guild in Toronto for all the "behind the scenes" work that they do to make this trip go so smoothly. There are so many minute details involved in something like this, and they have done a great job! (and yes, I am part of the Travel Guild team this trip, but I still feel deep gratitude for all the work they did!)
So, we check into the hotel (another smooth process) and head to our rooms. It's been a very, very long day (having left Luxor quite early, after a 5:30 a.m. wake up call). Always nice to get to a lovely room and know that a good sleep awaits!
Up and at 'em on Wednesday morning. The tour time is adjusted to 10 a.m., allowing everyone to relax a bit and not have to rush in the morning. The hotel is already decorated in a festive manner for Christmas and it does lift everyone's spirits.
Breakfast is amazing and enjoyable. We then leave on a walking tour to see the Old Town counsel with the astonomic clock, Kinsky Palace, the Teyn church, Gothic House and St. Nicholas church. The weather is absolutely perfect and, as many of you who know me can appreciate, I am in my element in the crisp, cool, sunny air! Along the way, we stop at a cafe for a break. The lattes and hot chocolate are a hit with many! After the walking tour, many of us continue to stroll along the Charles bridge, do some shopping, or just return to the hotel for a rest. It was a fabulous day! So nice to see Vladka again, who was the guide in my group last year. She remembered me as I was the one who strolled along in sandals last year and everyone thought I was nuts! She was also one of my feature photos on the blog last year as she is truly a fashion queen! She is also a great tour guide!
After an enjoyable afternoon, we hop on the bus and head out to a farmhouse (about 30 mins. from Prague) for a dinner and folklore
show. It is a relaxed and comfortable environment. Dinner consists of dumplings, goulash, soup, and dessert. Very yummy, indeed. The entertainment is most enjoyable and then we all hit the dance floor..........even my buddy, Noel!!!!!! What fun.
Back on the bus and time to head back to the hotel for a good night's sleep. Did I aleady say that I LOVE my room????? and the pillows?!!!!!!!
(Some of you will remember that, in Whitehorse, we stored our winter clothes in a nylon bag that was put in the belly of the plane. Those clothes........my favorite "skinny" jeans that I bought in Prague last year with the help of Lorraine and Lynn, came out of the bag an hour ago.........the big test.........will the zipper go up easily, or not? .......YUP! Hooray! The exercise has paid off...........think I'll have some tea and dessert after the symphony tonight! Life is good; very good!)
Enjoy the photos of Day 1 in Prague! There are about 43 pictures; so don't miss any!!!!
(Good night, Mom. I love you!)
Happy, happy Pat
