Everyone seemed to have a bit more spring in their step due to a quiet night. A short time after breakfast everyone was up on deck sweltering in the roasting sun. We were relieved when we pulled into a beautiful bay with turquoise water and dropped anchor. I think almost everyone jumped in including the chef who screamed in mid air on his way in. The sandy beach looked quite inviting so Claire, Nic and I swam on in. There was a bit of a hill and we were curious what the view would be like from the top. A little while later we realised it was a terrible idea as it was becoming steep and we were in flip flops, despite that we kept climbing. Then we reached a bit where we would have to get scratched to pieces walking through scrub. And when wasps started circling we decide to turn back. It wasn't a total waste of time though, Grant had let us know that the following night we would be having a pirates and sailors party and the beach was covered in paraphenalia that had floated ashore. After sifting for a while we gathered our loot in a
bucket and swam ashore, doing it quietly to keep our treasures a secret.
We arrived into the picturesque town of Hvar relatively early in the afternoon. Grant let us know that it was where the rich and famous are known to frequent. The likes of Bill Gates, Steven Speilberg and Paris Hilton are regular visitors. I'm not sure if Bill and Steve hang with Paris though, I just don't think she'd add much to their conversations. We also learnt that last year there had been a huge boat that had beautiful girls coming and going on. Everyone was trying to figure out if someone famous was on it. They later found out that russian porn was being filmed on board. Teddy and Shawn spotted the biggest boat and joked they were going to knock and say "we're here for the gang bang." ha ha.
Even though it was scorching we made ourselves walk up to the fort. It was worth it, the views were fantastic. The fort was totally destroyed in 1579 when lightning hit the gunpowder room. Would have been a good fireworks show that night. When we got down we rewarded ourselves with strawberry milkshakes which
were glorious. While chilling out in the largest square in Dalmatia I saw Grant struggling with a heap of shopping bags full of picnic food for our tea. It was crazy hot and he looked like his arms were going to fall off. I was gonna sit and film it but thought I'd better give him a hand to haul them back to the boat. When we arrived back Doug and Ian came back and had found some bargain price beers at the supermarket, they were stoked. I decided to go grab a few myself and drank them whilst Nicola and I went for a stroll. Whilst walking we stumbled upon an old guy fishing for octopus. A group of kids had also gathered and were watching in anticipation. Suddenly he yanked up his line and had snared a good sized octopus. The kids were excited, that is until he started stomping on its head, that got a few screams. And that was just from me.
The picnic dinner was a great idea, Grant had chosen well. Crisps, crackers and cheese, hams, salamis, salads, cooked chickens, wine, it went down a treat. During a conversation I found out that
Rishi was a huge cricket fan. He is part Indian and part Sri Lankan so it is not hard to see why. He gets to support two teams which is a bit of a bonus. The next few hours was filled with cricket talk, I could see Nicola was staying well clear. There is apparently a great cocktail bar called Carpe Diem on the shore but unfortunately it was closed. Not to worry we found a great little bar off the main strip and piled into there. I’m not sure who discovered it but they had a drink called the tequila boom boom. This entailed putting on an army helmet, the barman shaking up the drink and then banging it into the helmet as hard as he could four or five times. It was brilliant, the barman must have had a sore arm by the end of the night because they were being ordered left, right and centre. After having a good yarn to Scotty about how Arsenal are going to win the premier league this upcoming season and what imports we need I was chatting to a few of the other lads and for some reason we thought we’d
start a band. I’m pretty sure none of us have ever picked up an instrument before, except maybe for my 6 months of recorder tuition which amounted to me learning two song’s - hot cross buns and b-a-g, which now come to think of it are the very same tune. Anyways Josh, Grant, Nathan, Rishi and I became … wait for it … The Tequila Boom Booms. At this stage we have only taken photos for the cover of our album, but I’m pretty sure Grant said he was working on some lyrics. Watch this space.
