Named after a Swedish-born Russian warrior in honour of the Russian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Moldavian, Finnish, and Romanian soldiers who died (200,000 total) liberating Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire in 1878.

Changing of the Guards
Bulgaria -- great food, beautiful churches, awesome skiing, good prices. What more can you ask for? We loved Sofia, but skiing on fresh snow at Mount Vitosha was the real highlight of Bulgaria.
