Changing of the GuardsBulgaria -- great food, beautiful churches, awesome skiing, good prices. What more can you ask for? We loved Sofia, but skiing on fresh snow at Mount Vitosha was the real highlight of Bulgaria.

Aleksander Nevski Church (1912)
Named after a Swedish-born Russian warrior in honour of the Russian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Moldavian, Finnish, and Romanian soldiers who died (200,000 total) liberating Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire in 1878.

Church dome
The real gold on the church dome is changed every 50 years.

Changing of the guards
At the President's Building, the guards change on the hour with high kicks and boots slapping the pavement. Check out the video link.
