So the weatherman was right on. Said it would be sunny (NOT) turned out cloudy and cool so that was good. I told you about the village Lech in one of my blogs. High end with Royals and Celbs.(skling) We were in the 5 star hotel where Princess Diana visited winter of 1991. I included her picture on the wall in the hotel plus some images in the hotel. Tomorrow we are on our way to another part of Austria. Still in the Alps. We will be there a week. So the trip continues.. If you have any questions about anything please ask. Either by email (lolson39@hotmail.com) or by a comment via the blog. as ever Lowell... read more

Last time I wrote we were finishing up in Zurich. The last thing to note in Zurich is how expensive the city is. We went out for dinner and couldn't find anything within a decent price range, ending up with a $41 swiss franc mussaman curry. For those playing at home that's something around $55 for one curry... I'm sure you can all imagine Matts reaction! We left for Lech which is a ski village within the Vorarlberg region of Austria. Thinking that the local station that all the regional trains go to (Langen) would be a reasonable sized station we were wrong. When the train doors opened we were welcomed with a platform of powder and not a soul around. Turns out our suitcases are not much good when being wheeled along a train platform ... read more

Day 74 – Travelling to Lech, Austria Today was our last day in Italy. This morning was a really early start, and a nice long walk. We had to make our train at 6:20am, and we had 1.5km’s to walk through the streets of Venice, so we got up at 5am and got there with 10mins to spare. On the train, we again enjoyed 1st class comfort and amazing scenery. It was a 1hr to Verona, then at 9am we jumped on our train to Innsbruck, Austria. This trip was 4 hours long, so the music came out, and we enjoyed it all the way. Getting closer and closer, there was more and more snow, so we got excited. At Innsbruck, it was again another train journey to St Anton Am Arlberg, then we jumped on ... read more

So last night was pretty interesting. But telling the story requires some explaining. My room is one of many in this house where they rent rooms out to ski instructors and local workers, BUT on the main floor there is a strip club... (which used to be a very tasteful, family-oriented restaurant), clearly the owners had a change of heart concerning their profession. Anyway, my room just happens to also be lucky enough to be next to the room where 'the girls' get ready for their performance. SOOO last night I was innocentely reading my book in bed and talking to friends online when outta no where i hear loud footsteps outside and then someone kept banging on my door trying to get in! So I was pretty bloody pissed and opened the door to find ... read more

Well winter break is almost (regretfully) over with me having approximately 10 days left here in the Austrian Alps! Nothing but skiing, snowboarding and hanging with local friends. It'll be hard going back to Los Angeles and school (ugh) at the end of Jan, I get to deal with the classes from HELL. Since this is my first blog ever I'll throw in a few things about myself as i tell the tale of my winter wonderland vacation! But first let me give you a taste of the oh so fun classes I get to look forward to!= 1. Molecular Cell Biology 2. Physics A: properties of matter, mechanics, wave motion, and heat (the fact that its only Physics A indicates that theres a Physics B I get to look forward to in the Fall as ... read more

Well only Lech was available to put, but im actually in Zürs am Alberg, which is a tiny town right next to Lech. So its about halfway through Winter break and its been pretty eventful actually. The first week was pretty damn boring, but then around New Years it picked up. New Years itself was just.. well not so great lol. It was pretty awkward. I went with Nina to the Alrberg house and hung out with the Eglers. I ended up at a table with the Egler boys and some Scottish people who decided to start snorting Icelandic alcohol up their nose... So it was interesting haha. After the firework show on the 1st of Jan Christian came over and yes yet again we had a make-out fest. But thats it, and its all just ... read more

Well, lots of changes happening around here. I am sorry it has taken me so long to catch up on the last month or so. I have accepted an internship offer with Accenture and will be moving to Karlsruhe in the next couple of weeks. Karlsruhe is in the SW of Germany inbetween Stuttgart and Mannheim. It is a fantastic internship and I am looking forward to beginning it and also doing some work travel around Europe. :-) So in between finding an apartment, Xmas, New Years, my mid year seminar, etc. Here I am. I'll try to update you on each as I have time to write. Hopefully NYE will come soon. Rachel and I had a blast. But first...our fabulous Christmas in Lech, Austria. My family flew into the Frankfurt Airport on the 20th ... read more

I was in two minds as to whether to add a blog entry for a skiing trip. After all, skiing isn't Travel in a purist's sense, it's Holiday. And Austria didn’t seem to be exactly exotic, at least from a Brit’s point of view. On the other hand, for non-UK-based folks and for UK-based non-skiers, the photos, at least, might be of passing interest. In any event, by popular demand (= my sister, representing the latter group), here I am. My apologies in advance to my fellow skiers: I considered changing your names “to protect the innocent”… but didn’t. We'd elected to go DIY this year, rather than choose a package trip. How would we cope without the harassed-but-need-to-be-smiley-and-welcoming ski rep to check us off one mode of transport and onto another, to sort out lift ... read more
