Greetings from Bequia, I was dead tired last night, so I hit the sack at 9:00 and didn't get up til 7:00am. I started the day off with a 1 mile swim. Then it was on the boat to get fuel and water. I had shown Alan my list of things that I noticed the boat needed to make it better. And just as I thought, he said "that looks great--make it so". So it looks like I have created some work for myself. After noon I set out on a serious walk about. Alan had three For Sale signs he wanted placed on properties around the island. One was at a new area under development called Friendship Hieghts- and rightly named. It was a seriously steep climb to the top. Some sections were so steep ... read more

Well, we didnt't get to refuel the boat this morning. Something about the refueling ship not being there. We'll try again tomorrow. I tidied up the boat a little and tried to replace a broken hinge on the storage room door, but the hinge was the wrong size and the screw heads kept twisting off-that's how hard the wood is) Sarah gave me my only job of any consequence this afternoon. I repainted a wooden window that had to be replaced at the harbour shop. Trying to use a roller right out of the bucket meant a good deal of paint on me as well as the window covering. Alan wants me to go to St Vincent on Monday to the government offices and try to round up some land descriptions for some properties here on ... read more
Day's end

Mornin', Mornin', Sunrise on Day 1 on Bequia. I arrived last evening only about 10 minutes behind schedule--pretty good for "island time". My plane from Miami sat at the gate for an hour before we could take off. Some sort of mechanical. It was a good thing I had extra time to transfer in Barbados. We flew from Barbados to Union island before heading to Bequia. That flight took us right over the Tobago Cays, which was beautiful. I can't wait to get down there on the Rose on Sunday. Sarah, Alan's niece met me at the airport and the ride accross the island was all too familiar. Everything looked just as I left it a year and a half ago. I'm staying at Alan's house with him and Simon, his nephew, and James, Simon's freind ... read more

Mornin' Mornin' to all my Bequia bubbies. I will be picking up my blog next week as I head back to Bequia for another three weeks. I hope you all will follow me again this year on my Caribbean adventures. Ya Mon, David... read more

The Grenadines are one of our favorite places on this earth, and it holds a special place in our hearts. The water is so clear and so beautiful; it sparkles like a flawless topaz sea before us. And the beaches are so white and pristine, lined with coconut palms. The lobsters are plentiful and delicious, grilled up at a beach bbq and smothered with garlic butter. The snorkeling is unparalleled, with a wealth of fish and coral to discover. There are remarkable anchorages where your only neighbors are the turtles and rays that swim by. And at the end of the day we are rewarded with stunning sunsets, 360 degrees of vibrant skies and a green flash as the big finale. I feel like I could go on and on, but am afraid that my words ... read more

Mystique, the island of the rich and famous. It is one of the few privately owned islands in the Grenadines. Due to its luxury and isolation many famous people have vacation homes here including Tommy Hilfiger, Shania Twain, Mick Jagger, Brian Adams, and Princess Margaret. It also attracts the very rich such as a sheik from Saudi Arabia and the CEO of Nike. In fact, you just never know who you might run into. We thought we saw the Hilfiger clan up at Firefly, one of the hip restaurants on the island. All the kids were dressed in white and looked like they were straight out of a catalogue. But alas, that was our only star sighting while we were there. We stayed in Mustique for just a couple of days; enough to explore the island, ... read more

We have spent much of the last two weeks playing in the Grenadines, sailing between the different islands, and scuba diving as often as we can. Diving has become our new favorite hobby. And the Grenadines provide pristine reefs and abundant sea life to explore. So we have taken the plunge. We have dived Horseshoe Reef and Mayreau Gardens in the Tobago Cays, the Devil’s Table in Bequia, and the House Dive in Mustique. Unfortunately we are limited by where we can go by our dinghy and the ripping ocean currents. But every time we descend into the crystal clear turquoise water- it is well worth it. All goes silent as you descend to the ocean floor below, and the only noise is the bubbles from your regulator. And after you clear your ears, get oriented ... read more

My earlier blog was on a trip to the volcano on St Vincent, the largest of this group of islands. The nearest island to St Vincent is Bequia a very beautiful island, population 5000, about one hour by ferry from St Vincent. I went there a couple of times, just for the day. There is a lovely beach, good snorkeling, an interesting turtle preservation sanctuary and nice restaurants. ... read more
