Our room here has the most genius fan setup. They took a regular fan & hung it from the ceiling directly over the bed & it rotates. Perfect. A MacGyver ceiling fan. It really makes sleeping in this heat a little easier. And helps to limit the mass quantity of bug bites Geoff wakes up with.
This morning we had breakfast with Karen & Justin. I gave them all the pics I've taken so far on Ometepe since Karen lost her camera. That would suck. It was our farewell breakfast. They're heading to Granada today. Back to me & Geoff taking on the world alone! 😊 I had a delicious omelet full of veggies & Geoff stuck with his scrambled eggs & gallo pinto. We each had a lot of coffee. Addicts! We said our goodbyes to our new Seattle pals & made plans for a reunion once we're back home.
This commenced a very lazy day for Geoff & me. We sat on the dock, read books, swam, laid in hammocks & were pretty much really lazy for most of the day. We had planned to spend some time on the computer but the wifi wasn't working so
we were able to just be super mellow.
We took a midafternoon walk through the village of Merida. It is soooo super tiny. There is only one main road & walking on it you will definitely encounter pigs, horses, cows, lots of chickens, & dogs all roaming free. The kids are all in school & in their cute uniforms. When we walked by the school there was a pig & a couple dogs roaming in the schoolyard. Love it!! The pigs crack me up with their funny grunts & noises they make. If you stop & talk to them they definitely will talk back to you.
We headed back to the hostel for a snack. At lunch we met this guy from Canada who was terrible. I honestly don't think I've ever met a Canadian I didn't like but he won the prize for least likable person yet. He was super rude to the woman who runs the restaurant, because he didn't speak Spanish & welcome to Nicaragua dummy, she didn't speak English. I wanted to kick him in the shin more than once. To sum him up, he told us in one sentence "I really like to
sit at beachside bars, with a good looking waitress bringing me beer, & watch people get in & out of the water." Eeeww! Creeper! After that comment I decided I didn't need to waste my breath talking to him anymore. Icky. I began using my ignore tactics & they worked. Although the other thing he said which I loved was that he was always overcharged for beer: "I know how many beers I drink, I can keep track, but these people are always adding on a couple extra to my bill." Ok loser. We ate our delicious food & promptly ditched negative creepy guy.
We then resumed reading positions. Me in the hammock & Geoff on the dock. Perfect! Still no wifi so what else can we do. We could climb the volcano but I don't see that in our future...
We watched the sunset & saw our first Central American squirrel! He looked like our squirrels but he had a really dark face. We watched locals fish off the dock. They were catching huge cichlids, which we were probably eating! Interesting.
For our last dinner here we ate at our place of course, best food yet!
Our restaurant at Rancho Merida.
Consistently the best food we've eaten since we left home....We miss them... I had fish soup & it was incredible! It was a curry cream base with tons of veggies & a whole fish in the bowl. Yum! Geoff had tacos. I think he has a problem! Addicted to coffee & tacos. Uh oh!
We are both sun tired & sleepy so we headed to bed & watched the first 2 episodes of Weeds on our tiny computer 😊 I can see why everyone loves the show. We are totally hooked now.
