The aftermath of our evening...
but everyone was up and ready to see a waterfall. We reconvened at the restaurant for breakfast & it was ready pretty much at the time we asked. That's great service for Island time combined with Nica time. I'm impressed actually. Water bottles purchased from Margarita's Bar & we were on our way. The first part of the walk took us down a long, dusty road toward the city of San Ramon. We arrived at the entrance to the waterfall park after about 45 minutes. The entrance to the park is really pretty & well maintained. We paid our $3 to get in & began our 3 kilometer climb to the waterfall. It was pretty much straight uphill & we guesstimated it was really more like 4-5 km but at least it was early enough that the sun wasn't blazing hot yet. We started to wonder how big & watery this waterfall would be once we started getting closer & the riverbed was still quite dry. Once we got to the waterfall it was very tall, but didn't have a lot of water to it. It was still beautiful though. It came down over a very tall cliff that encircled us in this valley we stood in. We sat for a
Kung-Fu Chicken
This hen booted one of her babies a good 2 or 3 feet as she searched for food. The little guy popped right back up and kept following her. bit & enjoyed the scenery & began our trek down. On the way down we must have passed at least 20 people hiking up. It helps to get an early start! It was about to be crowded at the top.
Once we were down on the main road again it seemed like a lifetime until we got back to our hostel. We were all getting really hot & hungry. It was funny. Every little hill in the road that we came to we would all grumble a bit.
Of course, we made it back no problem & immediately ordered some lunch. When we had started our hike we were all so full from breakfast but by now over 5 hours had passed & we had worked up a good appetite. We had a chicken burger & the taquitos again. They cover them with veggies & cheese. Sooo yummy. And lots of beets that are really tasty! I guess they grow beets here?
As soon as our bellies were full we headed to the dock next door to swim. The water felt amazing! We enjoyed the afternoon sitting on the dock, swimming, reading, & enjoying the views of
the volcanos. I napped in a hammock for awhile until it was time for sunset. The four of us met out on the dock again to watch the sunset. It's neat because every evening the dock fills up with people coming out to watch the sunset. It's like the biggest show in town. I love it.
For dinner we tried the place next to us that had a buffet. It was ok. Not nearly as good as our place but had the usual fried fish, pasta, gallo pinto, etc. I kept feeding this one really super skinny dog. Poor thing. He was the happiest dog but so skinny. I had to be sneaky though because they had signs up not to feed the dogs. This dog needed some feeding so I broke the rules & felt good about it. Karen was my sidekick, telling me when the coast was clear to put my plate on the ground.
We spent the rest of the evening with Karen on the dock watching stars & telling stories about life at home & future plans. Justin had to work on his fantasy baseball draft so he was holed up in his room
with wifi. I think Geoff might have been jealous. Boys & their love of sports & fantasy teams.... 😉 The stars were out in full force with a mostly clear night & a waning moon. It was another pleasant end to a great day.
Good night!
