Jekyll Island is just slightly south of St Simons Island. It is smaller and more natural. Our friends, the Blythes, have their boat dock there for the colder months. Unfortunately, they were not there during our visit. Driftwood Beach, previously called "The Root" or "The Boneyard", was an area that we really wanted to see. It was, to say the least, awe inspiring. The books list it as a "photographer's playground". It has huge trees that have been toppled and shaped by the tides. This is a place where many brides want to hold their weddings. Being a public beach, it cannot be reserved and is on a first-come first-serve basis.
