Munich, Germany: August 6th - August 8th Day 12 - Our arrival in Germany at 7am brought the first real rain of our trip, & it was also quite cold & a bit breezy, & we realised that we hadn’t really brought enough warm clothes for our trip. The station was large & had heaps of amenities, & we took our time finding a map while we looked at all the nice German pastries (apple strudel & all that jazz). We walked the short distance to our hotel but they weren’t ready for us to check in, so we left our bags there & headed out into the city, which was just on the other side of the main train station. It had stopped raining by then so we were able to have a wander through ... read more

Venice, Italy: August 5th - August 6th Day 10 - We had a bit of time to mill around in the morning, so we basically just took it easy & bought a few supplies for our next train trip. We had managed to buy salami, bread & cheese on all our journeys so far, & it was kind of nice to have something to munch on while staring outside (or staring into space)! We boarded our train for Venice & chugged along quite nicely, admiring the water & all the wee islands that Venice is actually made up of. We went across one huge last bridge & suddenly we were there! We arrived in the early evening & it was still quite busy & very sunny - very pleasant! As soon as we came out of ... read more

Rome, Italy: August 2nd - August 5th Our arrival in Rome was good - we got a map as soon as we arrived & headed off to our hotel. The room was tiny but it was much nicer than some of the places we had been staying, plus breakfast was provided in the reception area every morning. We had to walk a little way but it wasn’t too bad. Rome was also very hot - about 37°C - & after a bit of a rest, it was getting dark (much better for walking as it’s cooler) & we decided to go & have a look at a famous place called Trevi Fountain. The walk was nice - we noticed heaps of statues all over the place, as well as a few ruins fenced off in various ... read more

OK - here I go again. This suddenly seems like much harder work than I had anticipated. By now you will all know that we have lost our digital camera with most images from our trip away to Europe. Unfortunately there was more bad luck to come - while I was away in Russia, Vaughan decided to reformat the computer, which didn’t go exactly as planned, & he ended up wiping the entire thing, including unrecoverable files & other important stuff. This also affected the travel blog I had written about our trip, which I had completed in anticipation of sorting out our photos in the near future. So not only did we lose our digital camera & all computer files, but also the 20 hours worth of work I had put into the travel site! ... read more

Hi Guys. Well, we made it on the big Europe Summer thing, and all that. It was awesome and it was great to finally get to see some of the countries we had been wondering about for years. There were a few places that we would love to go back to, and some places where one visit was enough, but it was all worthwhile and we made it back safely last night. Vaughan is already off to work again today so I feel a bit sorry for him, so I’ll try working hard too by getting on with this travel blog, and you can all see what we have been up to - it’s pretty hard work as well. Hope you have all been safe and well, and we look forward to catching up with you ... read more

Hi guys. I took a few photos on the last day of term at Harlington Community School, & I thought you might like to see a little bit about where I work. You can finally see Lewis (the boy I work with every day), some of the kids in his class, some of the other Learning Support Assistants (LSA's) that I work with (a couple who were leaving for new jobs), & a few of us at the Dog Races, where we went for a staff function after the last day of term. There are also a couple of shots from Thorpe Park (Rollercoaster Park) where we went on a school trip a few weeks earlier - it was an incredibly hot day so the water rides were the best. Hi All. How's the Winter going back in New Zealand? We have certainly seen enough pictures of the snow over there. We don't miss it, but don't feel jealous - Winter here is much crappier & you can all laugh at us soon enough :) Meanwhile, the weather here has been in Heatwave mode - last week we saw most days at 32 degrees & above for about 6 days in a row. It would be mildly nice if it wasn't so humid. With temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees overnight, it has been hard to sleep. Since a wicked thunderstorm yesterday morning it has been a bit cooler & much more manageable. Considering the weather, we have not been up to too much at all, as it's been too hot to walk around much. A ... read more

Hello yet again. Well, we made it back safely from York - it was nice to get away for the Bank Holiday Weekend (3 day weekend), as we didn't go anywhere for the last one. It was a bit of an odd trip really, but we had a great time. On the way up there in the car (Vaughan ditched the work van for a car) we were stuck in traffic for 3 different car accidents - the back-log was massive & we lost about 2 hours overall, arriving in York after 11pm (we didn't leave until after work). It still worked out fine, & it was nice to get away from London. York was another place that makes you wonder why you live in London. I think it has a population of about 180,000, but ... read more

Hi all. Well we haven't been up to much, but we are away to York (North East England) next weekend for the Bank Holiday/long weekend. It's just been nice in general recently with the weather (mostly) getting warmer, & all the spring flowers coming out around the place. Ealing has certainly proved itself as a nice place to be in at this time of the year, & we are much happier there. Our new flatmates Phill & Karla are both from New Zealand, & Karla & her boyfriend Usman are off to the Maldives today for a week. Lucky for some! :) Last night we went out for Sueann's birthday. She was one of the people we met on our trip to Scotland at Christmas, so it was nice to meet up with all the friends ... read more

April 6th 2006

Hi again. Well, we made it back from our trip safely, & not a moment too soon. While we enjoyed ourselves immensely, we also overdid it a bit, & feel like we need a holiday from our holiday this time. Portugal was great though - quite different from Greece (which is all we have to base it on at the moment). People didn't bug you every 5 seconds to eat at their restaurant or buy their market products, which made things much easier, but at the same time, hardly anyone spoke English, & none of the road signs or subway stations had an English equivalent on them to know where you were going, so it was much harder to navigate around. However, the transport systems were still effective & easily enough understood after living in a ... read more
