:D Nice I do really like your story. I live in Thailand in Pattaya about 4 years already. I came from Russia, Moscow because of family problems, and i was on Koh Samet once in this 4 years. Looking forward to go again, but with my boyfriend :)
Svelana.
Congratulations Hi Dave, I have been doing some research on teaching in Thailand and came across your blog, makes for a great read and I was starting to worry about you but have just read on and found it all worked out fine for you eventually.
I too am hoping to do the same and I think I will struggle, I have been assured you won't need a degree - I do have a TEFL qualification and am hoping this will be enough. I realise I will have to settle for less money but that's alright..
Anyways, thank you for letting me view your blog. I arrive in a week and hope to find work within 2 !
Take care.
wall street liked your story! was hoping you could gimme some advice... as a student 3/4ths of my way through university, dya think Wall Street would hire me to teach English part time? looking for extra money and need it fast...
drop me an email if you can thanks!
Congrats... Hi! Congratulations. Beautiful wedding pics...
I've followed your blog ever since your first trip to Thailand in '05-06?. In fact, you were part of my inspiration to visit southern Thailand back in '06 (my first trip) -- Trang town specifically -- which I have done many times as I have good friends there. Interestingly enough, I've now lived here for three years...and have made 11 trips back and forth to America!
Your story -- and your wife's -- was (is) fun to follow...thanks for sharing it.
I have a good friend who is the head of the English Dept. at Bangkok Christian School. If you ever want to connect with him send me an e-mail.
Chok dee & Sawasdee khup!
Wedding and more Had a great trip with your folks. Of course, you and Saai were much on our minds. Looking forward to a California celebration. Keep that in your plans. Congratulations to you both.
Holy Cow How sad I am that I won't be at your wedding!!! I was going to have mom and dad send me out there but we have a baby due at the end of Sept. Congrats to you and Saai and we'll hope to see you both soon.
Blessings,
R and A.
malate sorry about the snatchers, good thing you got your money back. I frequent the starbucks branch there. Next time you drop by malate you should try Cafe Adriatico, near bistro Remedios. Good food as well.
Makati I will be looking forward for your next posts... It is true that Makati is far better than Malate. I just hope more foreign travelers book their hotels in the Makati area to avoid disappoint with Malate or Manila. :)
Boracay I enjoy reading your blog... I am glad you liked Boracay... I myself fell in love with the place.

When in Trang.. ...you might want to check out the Tha Trang Collection...it's a nice little jewelry and gift shop one shop in from the corner just north of the Clock Tower (walk past the book store). You can find something nice for your fiancee there. The woman who owns it is very nice and she speaks English very well...check it out.
Congratulations!! Dave,
Thought I would check and see if you had any entries lately. What an entry!! Congratulations to you and Saai! I am very happy for you both, and you look so happy and content. Life is looking good!

Glad you're seeing the world - Also glad you got to see the UCLA games - we missed having you with us in Anaheim (sent you a picture) - the game won in the last nine seconds was electrifying. Congrats on the engagement. Thanks for the updates - we think of you often.

look straight ahead... Our street crossing advice for the streets in the old part of town, which actually worked, was to look straight ahead while crossing casually, and the bikes & motorbikes will avoid you. We didn't try it, however, on the bigger streets if we saw a car or bus approaching. (Yikes!) Try not to miss going to a park early in the morning (sorry) so you can see all the different kinds of exercise taking place. We also found the war museum interesting. Great pixs, Saai is lovely. Love, Stephanie
UCLA Glad that you were able to see the UCLA game! It wasn't the best game for Western Kentucky but the at least close the gap a little towards the end! Darrell and I also watched the UNC game. We won! Sweet. Hope that you are able to catch more games in the next couple of days! I totally forgot that you would have to get up early to see the game! Remember when we were all in Thailand for the Superbowl? Had to get up early for that too! Think I like watching the games from the states more! Not a fan of that whole getting up early thing:) Have a good one!~Heather
Yeah! I am so happy to finally see the blog again! Like I said before congrats on your engagement! I am so glad that your parents were able to go over to Thailand to meet Saai. AND to go to my favorite island...! I hope they enjoyed it! Thanks for the flood of memeories. I will have to pull my photo album off the self and look through it again. Look forward to more blogs!~Heather
Italian Restaurant There's a really good Italian restaurant just across from the cathedral between the Spanish tapas place and the French Bakery. I know it's Viet Nam, but this place is really good...and cheaper than most of the good Italian place in BKK.
Not enough to stay in Malaysia? Hi Dave,
I know it's 2008 now, but I bumped into your blog as I was doing some net surfing on Koh Lipe. :) Somewhat, I felt the urge to post a comment to you about you commenting on my country Malaysia. There ARE plenty to see if you stay long enough. So many towns and islands you've yet to discover, as from what I read in your entry, you've only been to like 3 places??? You have not checked out the wonderful gems on our east coast, what about the Borneo? Just a short note to share with you. Trust me that you've seen nothing yet if you've only been to Ipoh, Penang and Langkawi and made that comment. In fact, I've just came back from Langkawi myself. Well, all in all..to each his own. Perhaps Malaysia just isn't your cup of tea. Cheers.
This blog began with my 9 week adventure through SE Asia in 2006. That initial leap into the unknown led to many other life-changing decisions, the largest of which involved moving overseas. After living in America for my entire life, I moved to Bangkok, Thailand on June 30, 2007.
The blog continues as I share about living in Thailand, and traveling, primarily within SE Asia.
