we feel as if we are running down our trip and trying to get as much as possible done before we come home. I had major preconceptions when it came to Cambodia. I presumed we would need a canoe and machette and be eating grubs to get to Angkor wat but no way. Its more like Wentworth eastate without the golf course. The streets are leafy and pleasant as you drive from wat to Wat. Angkor is a small part of the overall place and in some ways as its SO busy the least intresting. The town nearby Siam reap is where you base yourself with all its newly built hotels and eateries, its so easy. unfortunately the fucking french found Angkor back in the 19th centuary and feel the need to get involved. They seem ... read more

Just a short blog as we are killing time waiting for our train. We knew we had 3 weeks in Thailand and needed to book things up as soon as we arrived. Before we knew it we had booked overnight trains to chiang mai in the north, 3 days trekking, elephant trek, flights to and from Cambodia, 4 nights on Cochiang island in a beach hut and a few days shopping in Bangkok before we come home! Well, as I say our night train back to BKok leaves tonight. I hope its better than the night train up! We were a little nervous as it was our first few days anyway and the thought of coups and things compounded it all. So it didnt help when we saw hundreds of army personnel board our train after ... read more

Well we have been deciding on arrival how long we want to stay as nothing is pre booked. Melbourne looked nice and after a couple of weeks out in the sticks with thousands of Aussie nuckle draggers we needed a bit of city life. We stayed in a nice hotel and recharged the batteries. Our last day was to be at the MCG for the one day England v Aus. Neither of us had been to a cricket match before and didnt know what to expect. How long a one dayer takes or even how the game is planned. We arrived at 1 for a 2:15 start and found ourselves surrounded by thousands of Aussie nuckle draggers except for Cleggy, a guy four rows down with an England flag and Cleggy written on his back. As ... read more

After getting back to Em and Rolfs at 5am we didnt get going till early afternoon on new years day. We didnt feel the need for a proper map and used some dodgey pamphlet instead. Well after two arguments and a long quiet period we both decided a map would be beneficial. We were heading south east down the coast through national parks and would turn off the main road and take a dusty track through ther forests and down to the coastline. D is the one who usually spots the wildlife but I saw Roos on a number of occasions crossing the road infront. At one point D said "how come you spot all the roos" and I said " Dionne if you take a rat and enlarge it by 20 then stick bouncey legs ... read more

Apologies for taking so long to get this posted. It really is dificult to find an internet cafe at the right time. When were in a rush there are loads of them when we have time we cannot find any. While on the plane I told D as I saw it,2 dumb poms arriving in Aus who tend to think daddy longlegs are a serious risk to ones health. So we made a plan, we were not going near anything with either 8 or no legs, that way we ensure a happy trip. Sydney is a fantastic place, well you all knew we would say that! But it really IS. They seem to have things right. We met up with D's sis Emma and her other half Rolf who both made us feel very welcome. We ... read more

The ferry accross from north to south island is meant to be one of the most sceinic crossings in the world and it did not dissapoint, it was freezing cold and the canteen was on a par with british rail but it was a nice way to spend 3 hours. We blasted over to the west coast and ended up in this little one horse town (we had already gone through a town claiming to be a 3 horse town, very strange). And here we finally decided to eat out and it was our best meal of NZ. roast beef glugged down with local beer, top dollar! We went on down the weat caost stopping in Te Anau and milford sound for 3 days before crossing over to the east coast and wending our way back ... read more

Well its been a while since our last post due to being in the middle of nowhere for 3 weeks. We landed in Aukland had a day there then picked up our campervan ( cheers for the advice Sal!) Te first week we meandered down through the north island stopping off at different areas. Rotorua was our first main stop, a volcanic area situated by lake something or other(D isnt here to prompt me!!) Here we had one of those outdoor hot spa fellas overlooking the lake all heated up naturally. Now to say that so far it had been f**ing cold up to that point is an understatement all the kiwis were moaning about there spring. So I turned up in my puny white skin ready for a bit of volcanic action and at 40 ... read more

My camera is being a pain so not downloading as much as I would like but this is the last part of Japan now although we have been in NZ over a week. We will try to blog again in the next few days. When we booked all this up we did not really think where exactly we may end up. If life got boring in one place we would move on. Well Hiroshima was not on top of the list of must see but a strange morbid draw caused us to disembark the bullet here. I have to say I'm glad we did because the Starbucks is a very good one at the station! Before I go on I have to just say ( if I havent already) the Japs live underground!! Every mainline station ... read more

Hi We left Tokoyo on the bullet train (shinkansen) we were both very excited it has been a dream of ours. It was as good as expected and we were right train spotters (as you can see from the picture Matt had his anorak on te he) I got told off 2 times and Matt once for going over the yellow line whilst taking our pictures. We arrived in Kyoto and went to find our hotel for the night which we had booked at home. It is called a Rykon and is a Japanese traditional house. You have a room, at night you unroll a very thin mattress. We had four night here and by the end of it we were glad to go as our backs, hips, kness everything ached, all very nice to experience but never ... read more
