This mission began early in 2007 when DJ learned that he could be transfered to Texas. After deciding to go to Texas, DJ asked Katie, his younger sister, to make
the journey with him by car. Why have your company ship your car when you can have a company sponsored road trip?!

Origin: Londonderry, NH
Final Destination: Lewisville, TX
Time frame: Four Days

Well everyone despite everything today, we finally made it to Lewisville, TX. Here's a video of what DJ's apartment looks like. It's pretty great, as I continue to inform you during the video. I apologize if you can't hear too well. On the way in we passed this amazing gigantic reservoir. We also passed many more cows and a beautiful sky. I love big sky country, even though it is a little disorienting to be around such a flat area. The main "inclines" here on the roads are the giant interchanges of highways. It's ridiculous. Lewisville seems to be a great place. We brought everything in out of ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: Paris, Texas. Howdy everyone! Well, we're in Texas as DJ told you. We just pulled off at a rest stop about 15 miles ago or so to switch out. I could only bang out about 100miles. Thankfully we're almost there. It is weird though to think that we are almost at our destination. It's been a really neat experience to drive across the country out here to Texas. It's too bad that DJ wasn't feeling well. But thank you all for your comments and well wishes. I'm sure that we will continue to update for the next couple of days as DJ gets settled in. Also weird. According to the map at the rest stop of Texas, there are different major regions of Texas, I believe it was 5, and they are all ... read more

Texas Blogger: DJ Location: Texarkana, Texas Well, as of 5:16 pm CST, we made it to Texas. With how I was feeling earlier today, I didn't think we would, but I've been pushing fluids for the last few hours and I'm feeling much better now. Katie basically drove from Memphis to Little Rock, then I drove to the Texas border. Katie has taken over the driving and can hopefully knock out a good chunk of the driving that we ave left. I knew I was in trouble this morning when I realized that I wasn't sweating. I think I was just very dehydrated, maybe with a bit of sun stroke. Something I'm going to have to adjust to living in the south, I'm sure. My uncle that lives in Texas was nice enough to run ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: EBF Arkansas Well, I'm back in the passenger seat now for a little while. DJ started to really feel bad after I finished the earlier post and we switched it up. THEN Arkansas decided to suck some more and there was about half an hour of stop and go traffic, and go only meant slight roll. Needless to say, I now have gotten in a lot more practice starting and stopping and I'm feeling a whole lot better about driving a standard. I may now say that I can drive standard. Regardless, it was annoying. And you want to know what they were doing in the road work???? Laying down a foot and a half of concrete in the middle of the East and West bound lanes. LAME. We voted that Arkansas or ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: Really flat Arkansas. Well, we have now crossed into Arkansas, only one more state to go. Last night in Memphis we wandered around to find something to eat (after seeing a little bit of "Next Best Thing" and "American Inventor"). We settled on this place called Dan McGuiness, which we were expecting to be a dirty Irish pub, but it opened onto a mall with a courtyard of trees and a fountain inside it was very disorienting. The food was delicious. We think Memphis is a good food city, although not sure why no one seems to sell breakfast. We had to settle on Waffle House again in West Memphis, AR. PS. At dinner DJ said that he really wanted to go to Murphy's Tavern but he can't now because he's moved. ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: Memphis, TN at Springhill Suites Time arrived: not sure. SO. This springhill suites is letting us down. First they don't have our reservation. "It was cancelled but we don't know how or why" uh huh. right. then they only have a room with a king size bed. Next one of the phones doesn't work and the wired internet doesn't work, but now we found the wireless. So basically we are annoyed with this hotel. OH also there was no parking left, and this guy told DJ to park in a "10 minute only parking spot" and the parking guy said it'd be ok. So we'll see. Anywho, we had a pretty interesting ride I guess since last update, there was a pack of bikers on the highway that were being jerks and ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: EBF, TN, potentially near Dickson. Or Shiloh Welcome to central time. We just pulled off to get some more gas, use the bathroom and eat. DJ and I have been on a weird eating schedule today, I think that might be why I felt weird. We stopped at this really nice on/off Horizon gas station with a Backyard Burgers place. At the food place I discovered my new favorite drink: Sobe Lean cranberry grapefruit drink. At first I said that sounds weird, but now I love it. DJ got talking to this guy who saw our license plate and asked him about it because his insurance company is called Fortis. That's kinda interesting. It is always interesting to hear DJ talk to people because he adopts their accents really quickly. I think ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: West of Nashville, TN So we decided to blow past Nashville, we were both pretty indifferent about it, but were both excited to get to Memphis and the hotel sooner rather than later. about 70 miles back I just couldn't take driving anymore, so DJ is driving and I think waiting for me to blog for us to maybe switch again? I dunno. When we switched we'd hit the boring section of TN and I just couldn't take it anymore. I was getting restless. Things I've learned (and tried to store up for blogging from earlier) The FedEx trucks have different colors depending on what are carrying. Fed is always purple, but the Ex is red for Freight and Green for Ground. We've seen a lot of FedEx trucks today. Neat billboards: ... read more

Blogger: DJ We just gassed up in Knoxville, TN, which is funny because we thought we had passed through knoxville about 15-20 minutes earlier. Though it's possible that Knoxville is just huge. Katie would like to point out that for all of the mix CDs that we've listened to, no one saw fi to include "On the Road again" and that she was disappointed. I pointed out that the song is about anticipation of being on the road again and escaping and that my friends that made the CD's would most likely not be trying to encourage such behavior. She then conceded that she's never actually listened to that song. Katie and I are trying to switch of on the driving more frequently so we don't hate our lives as much. I drove for the first ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: Harmony, TN on the road Day Three on our fabulous adventure. Time on the road: 10:35am Time passed into TN: 10:48am Miles to go until Nashville: 284 Well, we got a later start this morning than planned as I mentioned in my earlier blog. Today we sort of took our time. Now it's time for my criticisms of our hotel: No minifridge or microwave like the springhill suites, no separate bathroom and sink area, weird seat attached at the end of the shower as if its a handicapped bathroom, but the water will never reach someone on the seat, there is only wired internet access and the cord is very short. They also keep it hanging in the armoir. That's weird. Also, we were literally right next to the highway. NO FREE ... read more
