| 16th September 2006 PET Miami | World Full of Wonders - From: travel blog disclaimer "World of Wonders" well stated. Life is full of rewarding experiences and memories. My travels through Nicaragua took me from the heights of volcano and markets of Masaya, to the cobblestone streets of Granada, to the historic battle scars of Leon, to the sugar cane fields of Chichigalpa, and finally to the coffee plantations in Mataglapa. As a gringo in Nicaragua everyone called me "Chele'". The wonders of the world is also the many friendships with the people you make along the way. Paul, Miami |

| 15th August 2006 Don Wroten | Home Remedy - From: waiting in antigua.... Hey Sue. Sorry to hear about your problem. I had something similar before and I bath in corn starch to stop the itching. Yeah, just regular starch and benedril tablets. If you can get some starch, mix it in some water, keep the viscousity kind of thick but not to pasty. Put it on your forearm and see how it does. If it works, put a good amount in a bath tub, bath and do not wipe it off. Let it dry. I hope it works for you. Let me know if you decide to come home. Good luck and God bless you! |
| 15th August 2006 linda | Itches , itches!!! - From: waiting in antigua.... Poor Suzie!! I feel so badly for you!!!! when we were in Guatemala, I got fleas in my sleeping bag and thought I was going to die!!! So I can sympathize with you at least a little!! and in Huanaco, Peru, I got bitten by a special sand flea/fly -- fortunately the cure was just to put lotion on my body. but yours sounds much more serious!!! I will certainly be praying that God touches your body and gives you relief -- itching can really be so agonizing!!!! While I've got your attention -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I know it's a little early -- but in case we don't hear from you for a while, I didn't want to miss the opportunity!!! We miss you -- your birthday is our next Borders' meeting -- so you can think of us gathering in your honor while you celebrate your birthday in latino style!!! Love ya lots!! Linda (L) |
| 11th August 2006 Jennie | Those feet must belong to a goddess!!!!!!!!! - From: el salvador... Wow, I never thought I would actually get to talk about those feet again. You must remember way back when fruit stretchies were in and Sue Persia(size ?10?) wore sandals that showed how beautiful those long slender things could look. Oh yeah, "goddess feet" and yet they still look as gorgeous as the day the man on the el told you so. Please tell me you remeber this because I have to admit that was one of the bestest times we ever had even though we should've been in school. But if we were in school how would that bird poop on my nose and give me good luck? LOL cracking up so hard, I think I might have to go potty. Ok, really now you sound like your having a good time even if you are getting robbed while you're there. I'm sure he needed that stuff more than you guys did. I hope your passport wasn't in that backpack. It would suck to go through that process all over again. Keep sending the blogs and pictures. I am living in another place through your eyes and it is spectacular and invigorating. It is such a beautiful place. Have fun and be safe I love you more than tortillas and sopillas. Jennie |
| 9th August 2006 linda | not much to say - From: el salvador... we had our borders' babes meeting last night -- and you were the talk of the town! Sure wish you'd been with us! | 1st August 2006 mara wai | space cookies - From: beware of the space cookies... Hey Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue! By "space cookies" I initially thought you were talking about internet spam - not mind spam. I'm still ardently following your travel blogs. Thanks for keeping us posted Suze! It's fun to get your updates. I feel like I need a "where's waldo?" calendar and thumbtacks to chart your movements :) Max started "puppy training" he meets once/week with Cricket, Lacy, and Champ, and their people, to learn basic obedience training. | 26th July 2006 linda | passport issues - From: the good and the bad.... Check to see if there is a 'Summer Institute of Linguistics' (not sure of spanish translation - instituto de linguistico, maybe?? They deal with missionaries coming in and out of the country all the time -- they are an american based organization -- that's where we stayed WAY too many years ago! anyway -- they are usually very helpful and would possibly have some suggestions or friends at immigration to give you a hand. worth the phone call, anyway! I'm sure they've had things like this happen before -- all sorts of college students, new families pass through their "portals" -- someone must have lost a passport at least once! |

Tobacco Caye sounds spectacular - especially your night in a Cabana on the beach - ahhhhhhhhhhhhh how unreal! |
| 11th July 2006 linda l | we heard the news - From: life and travelling... I heard from Monica that you'd decided not to go to Peru. Disappointment on my part -- but i also know how fascinating Guatemala is! We have some kids coming to Guatemala City giving concerts in a couple weeks - don't know if that's anywhere near your agenda sched. -- if so, look for a group called "Carpenter's Tools" -- they're college kids from all over US - one is from our church. Now - to more serious things -- I am sorry to hear about your Grandmom. I know how much you loved being with her -- maybe now she will be following you on your trip - at least in spirit!! She didn't want to be left behind!!??!! consider this a hug from me -- wish I'd known -- Dick and I would have tried to represent you at her funeral (not the same, by a long shot, i realise). If you haven't heard from Monica lately -- she finally found out that her paper was accepted -- she and her friend have to defend it on 7/17. She is excited -- and nervous. And she was sorry that she wouldn't get to see you -- but I'm sure she is getting your blogs. That's too bad, too, about your passport!! Now is a fine time to tell you -- we've been told to carry a copy of the passport -- and keep the original in a secure spot -- I never thought to mention that -- they said, that way, even if it gets lost, the picture and numbers allow it to be replaced more quickly. Oh well -- sorry I didnt think to warn you -- and I hope there aren't any redheaded guatemalans to be able to use it!!! : ) Guess I'd better get back to work -- this is way too long!! continue your adventures -- and we're looking forward to more pictures! Love you LOTS AND LOTS!!! The border babe!!! (one of them!) |
| 11th July 2006 Laura | - From: life and travelling... I am happy to hear you are well, I so enjoy reading your entries. I am so very sorry to hear about your grandmother. Maybe she will meet up with my Gram and they can watch over us together! I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Be safe and stay well! Love you! |
| 10th July 2006 paul | sue the fox - From: belize and public transportation world trotter, it is with some amazement i read your articles. needless to say i am truely impressed. i hope all continues well, my thoughts are with you :) |
| 6th July 2006 Rachel | Belize is expensive?? - From: belize and public transportation Sue, you are missed sooooo much at home, too. I was down the shore this weekend, watching the fireworks for the 4th, and thought of you and what you might be doing for independence day. Live is also going to be playing at the end of the month at the beach and I wished you could go with me.....whaaa.....OK, now that I got that out of my system, I hope you are doing better with the homesickness. And my, my, Sue, you are taking traveling to a whole new level I thought $25 per night was cheap. Please tell me you got pictures of the $3 a night room, I have to see what that was like :) I cant believe that you have been getting by on $12 a day. You should write for the Lonely Planet or something. I miss you!! Rachel |
| 5th July 2006 Esteban | USB Cable - From: belize and public transportation Hi Sue. I love reading the journal entries. Happy 4th to you. Regarding the cable, it's probably a standard USB cable. You just need to know the size of the plug on the camera end (small, medium or large). I'm not saying it will be easy finding this in the small towns, but if you do make it to a major city you might be able to find it. Another option is to buy a USB card reader. You put the memory card from your camera in this, and connect the other end to the PC. Again, you'll need a bigger city for this, but might be easier to find than the USB cable. Either option should be US$10-20. |
| 5th July 2006 Tracie :) | Happy 4th!! - From: belize and public transportation Sue - You're so awesome!! I hope when you get back - you will show me all your pictures! I think it will be a fantastic slide show! Take care of yourself! ~Tracie |
| 5th July 2006 Linda L. | Great Trip so far!!! - From: belize and public transportation I am so envious! And everyone I share your story with says basically the same thing -- had we been smarter -- we should have tried something like this before "settling down". I am so glad you are doing this and allowing us all to participate -- loving every minute of it! we'll be anxious to see your pictures from the rest of the trip -- probably after you get back to the US. We'll miss the photos - but your narratives are so great -- we can manage! Keep on trekkin'!!!! Luv-- me (and the other border babes!) |

I can't image what a spectacular feeling you must have experienced when the villagers joined your yoga session - It's definitely a feeling that is unique to the situation and will never happen again. Amazing. And ohhhhhhhh my god - the thought of you guys noticing the peering eyes of crocs while traveling through the logoon and possibly capsizing - I would have been TERRIFIED! | 22nd June 2006 Linda L - the other one! | Life in a different world! - From: a long one... I have to say -- it is really so hard for people in the US to believe that there are truly people (old or otherwise) who really just want to be kind, caring people and are not all perverts!! It pays to be cautious, but you have good instincts, So just trust your gut!!! You didn't take all those psych courses just for fun, remember! You should be able to recognize the psychos!! I'm reading a book that in Ecuador they have cockroaches big enough to make a dinner out of !!! Shall we do that for your NEXT trip???? That place absolutely looks like heaven!!! Let us know how your dive went! |
| 21st June 2006 Cathy Klosinski | - From: a long one... You crack me up! Feel like I am there with you! |

| 16th June 2006 Jen U. | Sounds Awesome! - From: san pedro The lake sounds amazing! Must have been nice to fit some yoga and relaxation time in - you certainly deserve it. I've been horseback riding a few times while in Montana. It was frightening at first, I even broke out in hives all over my legs! But boy was it an awesome experience - we climed mountains through gorgeous evergreen trees - I'll never forget it. I'm sure the horses there though were MUCH tamer then the ones you attempted to ride! :) Enjoy the rest of your time in San Pedro - I hope you are taking lots of pictures!!! xoxo |
