We decided to try to do more on the weekends. There are so many beautiful things to see here other then the malls. Now that the weather is cooling a bit we have decided to go on adventures during the weekends. We wanted to visit other Emirates and Oman which is the country neighboring UAE. In this blog we ventured to Buraimi, Oman which Al Ain borders. I actually live right across from the border so we have finally gone across to do more than just renew our visas. We decided to visit. We also took a trip through Oman mountains to get to Hatta UAE last weekend. Hatta was a quaint village we enjoyed visiting the fort there and the heritage village. The following weekend we ventured to Musandum, Oman going through Ras Al Khaimah ... read more

I couldn't wait to arrive home to feel fresh air! We flew( Me, Asiyah, Abdullalh) 6 hrs. from UAE to London on Emirates Air, which was a beautiful airline, best I have ever been on by far. If you ever want to treat yourself to a wonderful flight and can use Emirates Air, do it! It is new, clean, sleak, latest technology, great food, great service, they even gave the kids a back-packed containing toys, books, adorable sleep masks for kids, oh what a great first leg of the trip! Even better than Etihad, which I loved! Ok so, I loved the way England looked as we lowered to land and I saw Buckingham palace, and the Thames River. It was very green and looked beautiful from the sky. I made a mental note to visit ... read more

Hmmmmm lets see. Not much new going on here. Cant believe the school year is almost over and I am looking forward to coming home. Abdullah and Asiyah are looking forward to coming home too! All N all first year was not too bad. started getting lonely, but I got another tutoring position, and my husband is going to speak to some of his students mothers to see what is going on around here for women. Hoping I can find a pool. Its tough only having one car. I have had a lot of time to reflect, not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. But at least we went out this week and it was great. Went to Sharjah-great place to shop. We went to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. I love ... read more

These are pictures of Al Ain Museum. I had a great time despite my children being bored to death and driving me crazy. You will see pictures of old texts, such as Qurans and Hadith (written on skins), Pottery from the Hili tombs, antique Jewelry, pictures of what Al Ain looked like in just the 50's and 60's, artillery, money from different Khalifat, and gifts that were given from other countries to Sheik Zayed and donated to the museum. I took a picture of the label which stated which country gave the gift, then I tried to put the picture of the gift right afterward. Note the pic. of the bag that said for Womens cosmetics, I thought that was so 'a propos. Enjoy! View pictures as large as possible to get writing and detail if ... read more

Dubai is a great place and it is very large. After going myself and getting lost I told my husband we need a map he claimed infatically NO we do not need a map! (whats with men & maps?) I almost titled this blog Men and maps! ---So we got lost for a very long time the first time we went to dubai. The second time my husband wanted to go I said fine but by a map. He replied-again-I dont need a map we can get there. Note: The problem isnt getting there, the problem is getting around to where we want to go. Anyway we successfully reached where we wanted (Jumeirah Palm)after just a little bit of floundering, then its time to go to Ikea-- we get lost. I decide Ive had enough and ... read more

Jabeel Hafeet – I had been asking my husband for a while to go to Jabel Haffeet which is a mountain range that is visible from everywhere in Al Ain So one night out of the blue he says ok lets go up the mountain, I really wanted to go right before sunrise so I could get some awesome pictures but we went at night the mountain is very intense and high. I was nervous, not so much the height but the boulders that did not seem very secure from my view. Large big rocks on the side of the mountain unnerved me to say the least and they were doing construction digging so that didn’t help. But it was very beautiful when we got to the top we could see the entire city all lit ... read more

Special note about Asiyah So Najd promised Asiyah a bicycle if she promised not to suck her finger for a month. And this determined little girl did it. After years of putting socks on her hand, buying nasty tasting finger elixirs, threats, bribery, she did it! He said bike and that was it. She had two difficult nights, she couldn’t sleep and she was crying. We put a sock on her hand and bought her a pacifier for night and she did it! No more sock, it’s been two weeks! Update: only 7 more days to go! First days of school Well first days of school Abdullah came home with stories of at least 3 different children pushing and hitting him. I asked him did he tell the teacher and he said he did and the ... read more

This month has been a very busy one for us. We were determined to get the children into school, Eid Ul Adha was this month, as well as National Day, which is the day UAE celebrates the formation of the Emirates. EID UL ADHA The Eid was very disappointing. We thought the celebrations would be amazing here, but it was really low key. the prayers were at 6:30 am and we missed it. We went anyway and people were just leaving as we arrived. There were not many woman at all at the prayer grounds so I made my prayer in the car. There were no festivities really, no excitement, you didnt see anyone slaughtering a ram. We did go to the Livestock souk but it was much too crowded. So we came home and ... read more

It is now Eid vacation and we spent our first day going to Dubai. I have been waiting a long time to experience the place that the whole world is talking about: Once you pass the Coffee Pot Roundabout (pictured) you know you have left Al Ain and you are on your way! It is a 1 1/2-2 hr. drive from Al Ain to Dubai, but it is a a beuatiful ride minus all the construction thats going on. The rode we ride on is a new road and is still being worked on and it goes right through the dessert, so you will see rolling red sand dunes, camel farms, and desert villages. Dubai Kinda reminds me of Orlando the way it is set up Knowledge Village, Jebal Ali Village, Children's City, Jumeirah Village, International ... read more
