Miss You Sar,
Glad to hear that you made it there ok--sorry to hear about your luggage. I did not relize I could email you back through your blog, Kathy showed me how to do it. I guess your computer lessons helped out. Every time I come home and see your car in the driveway there is a flash of hope that you are home. I wish I had your courage!!!!
Love you,
Nancy
Hope you enjoy Santiago When I was in Santiago ( many moons ago) I also had a wonderful experience. The people were great and I was even invited to a wedding of a couple I had never met before. Hope you have as good of a time.
welcome to chile hola sarita,
I completely agree with your friend Stephen Paul. Not that I'm biased or anything (being born and raised in Chile and all), but when all this is said and done, you will go home knowing this is one of the most beautiful of all places and the people can be very charming, warm and welcoming. Just you give it time, and be flexible, ha! as if I need to say that... but sometimes buying deodorant can be difficult when you have to go to five clerks. Go check out the Mercado Central and have lunch there (Machas a la parmesana, fish). Treat yourself to a "cafe helado" in a providencia cafe. Don't forget to try the metro as a great way to get around. While in Santiago, go up to the cerro san Cristobal and check out the disappearing view of the Andes. Go sit at the Plaza de Armas, and look at the children play. I know it seems hard to believe right now, but things will get better once you are settled in. Remember the tough times at Allies, and how we stuck through it? Congratulations of having such a great perspective. Do not hesitate to call any of the people of my list of contacts. My friend Paula can be there for anything. My friend Marcelo who lives in Vina will be your best bet for connections in Valparaiso/vina area. Have a pisco sour for me!!!
I look forward to hearing more of your experiences. Chaoooo....
Muchos besos!!!
-Monica
Wow! This journal is so cool. You had an amazing summer. School has started and it it a little sad to not see you in your classroom. I hope you are having a great time. I will keep reading so you keep on writing. Miss you tons!!! -Becca
Glad you arrived! So glad to hear that you made it, and I hope that your luggage is soon to follow. I'm sure that you will look back at all of these crazy events and laugh one day... because of the great time that is still to come. I love reading about all of your adventures. Thinking of you often and can't wait to hear about the next one. Love ya mags
Maletas Perdido Hey! When I visited Chile the same thing happened, not only the thought of "What the heck and I doing" but missing my bags as well. I was planning on staying in Chillan the first night(4 hours drive in my rental car), which I did. My bags arrived in 2 days, which they flew to the Airport in Concepcion. All in all considering I didn't speak very good spanish at the time it wasn't that big of a deal! Imc ertain your luggage will arrive soon and in excellent condition. Im also certain of one thing- as your experience in Chile unfolds, you will go home believing that this country is on of the most beauitful and friendly in the world. Check out my blog entry on Chile for some pictures from my trip.....Cheers!!
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad that you made it.My mom just asked me this morning if I had heard from you! I told her I was very surprised that I hadn't heard from you yet---but now I know why. Miami airport floor, miserable.I'm hoping that today brings you 2 very heavy pieces of luggage so you can change your nasty shirt, ha, ha!Let us know what happens next. How great is it to have Edgardo? It always works out. Love you and be careful! Sara, Ryan, Ethan and Camden

By the short and curlies Saralynn,
Oi querida.
So good to hear about your travels, and I find a certain comfort/connection in your sarcasm. I love it. Some confuse sarcasm with pessimissm, which couldn't be more untrue.
Had you gone through London (some say a symbol of comfort/predictability - others an ostentatious island in demoralizing decline), coulda been worse, hey? Perhaps there is a peculiar comfort or reassurance in the more chaotic - the only thing predictable is the unpredictable, which is quite comforting to know what to not expect - predictability. Then when it goes "right" its 10x as sweet.
Short n curlies, carpe diem - all the same shtuff...
Cheers girl!

When Life Gives You Lemons Sara,
I have been thinking of you non-stop hoping you made it safely. I guess you are "safe" even though you are way way out of your comfort zone. I am so proud of you for making the most of it and putting things in perspective! Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers! Take Care and we are all crossing our fingers that your luggage will find its way to you.
Love,
Jes, Carter, Katie, Jaxy and David
Me siento tan entusiasmada para vos (well, tu - you are in Chile) Oh Sara (that's Sah-rhah, now)... I so look forward to these blogs and to hearing about all of your experiences, which I'm fortunate, are uniquely your own. And driving - now I'm REALLY impressed!
I will admit, your story makes it all come flowing back... oh that first flight to S. AMerica -- Santiago. I left on a Thursday, to arrive on Saturday (ah how one learns patience)...at least you didn't have an almost 5am fist fight in the cockpit with nicotine deprived, "cut off" Chileans. ...Ahh, the memories. So late flight, check. Lost bags, check. I'm betting on 3-6 days for the bags to arrive. But you've already got the priorities - clean underwear, toothbrush. It's the little things in life (really). ;)
I am SO glad you have found a great friend in Edgardo - and I bet he's just as flattered to be the Chilean ambassador to a sharp, cute, on the ball American woman.
So I'll wait for your next blog - I really can't wait. We're living vicariously through you hear. Can't wait to hear about all those new experiences.
Te quiero mucho - Tricia
Hi Sara!! I'm sorry I've dropped off the face of the earth and out of touch since our glorious TEFL graduation, but it's so fun to hear about all your adventuring. I actually get to go to Chicago myself with my family this coming weekend!--I've only been in O'Hare airport before, so it should be fun. Meanwhile, as it turns out, I'm teaching at Bridge (honing those mad grammar skills...) and taking a beginning Spanish class at Metro. So it seems I'll be staying in Denver for the fall semester, but I look forward to hearing about your next steps--take care and have fun!
cross country tour ahhh, the voyages. what a treat to catch up with so many people before heading to the other side of the equator! The pictures are awesome, especially the one of you wakeboarding. you look tough. thanks for the blog.
Adopt Me! Wow... I love your family and friends... and I've never met them! Sounds like you've had a great time getting caught up. Keep sending the updates.
Sara!! You're the best blogger ever :) So many children - and so many wondeful friends - I love that you're still in touch with all of them and hoipe you recognize how rich your life is!! We are all going to miss you so much when you're in Chile. I'm thinking of you from Crete right now and wishing you the safest travels. I love you so much and can't wait to see you real soon. With Love, Anne
Hi and good luck I'm enjoying reading your travel blog! Couldn't believe Tyler was the same baby as on the birth announcement. Carrie is sure feeding him well. When do your leave? We wish you a safe trip and lots of interesting experiences. Love, Bob and Deanna
I don't get it. I thought by this time you'd be either a) earning your living by diving off cliffs with a dagger in your teeth during the day and teaching the tango in smoke-filled cabarets by night; or b) have been kidnapped by rebels and taken deep into the mountains (and we'd be trying to put together the enormous ransom); or c) be married to a drug lord and have forgotten all about us. Instead, you're just running around hugging American babies. When is this adventure going to get off the ground? For crying out loud, we need some vicarious excitement.
What a great send off! Sounds like you had a warm welcome home, a great visit with classmates, and a lot of new faces to send you off on your adventures. Ty looks like he is ready for an earful when you return! Can't wait to hear what you find for employment down there, what you teach them, and, more importantly in teaching, what you learn.
verklempt Awww...what a great blog. :) I wish I could have had a bit more time to spend with you, but I'm still glad I got to see you at all! Thanks for your nice words about me.
I'm verklempt.
Good luck as you begin your journey!!! Can't wait for more!
Keeping up to date Wow, I don't think I've talked to you in weeks! You took the plungeĀ into the deep end. It's exciting you hear about you tackling your to do list with so much gusto. I admire you Sara Lynn Foster. Keep up the blog, or else.
on your way Sara-congrats on the life changing purchase of a ticket to South America
I think Dave and i had the same initial thoughts w/ the pregnancy but as you can see-we are so excited for our new adventure-you will do the same, I only know you to conquer fears and go full steam ahead. You will be great, just remember no getting married over there, Dave has to approve first. We love you
How about "bedskirt"? Sara, you totally crack me up! I love reading your journal entries. So now that the damage is done, when are you leaving for Chile?
