Tel Aviv, Israel - February
Angkor, Cambodia - November
St. Lucia, South Africa - January

WOAH!! Seriously what a week this has been. It has absolutely flown by and I have had an absolutely AMAZING time. Honestly, I can’t say it more than now that I LOVE MY LIFE. I was sitting on the beach the other day and had a brief few minutes by myself and started a flashbook of pictures in my head of all the places I’ve been and what I’ve seen and put on one of my stupid little smirks. I tried to do the beach thing every day. But it’s not the typical beach weather…it is still winter in Tel Aviv, [View Full Entry]

Well, I have completed my volunteer program with African Impact, Cape Town. I now have one week to explore this most picturesque city on my own and I couldn’t be happier. Sunday morning I packed up my crap and headed to Simon’s Town with Ashley, Charlotte and Becky for brunch and to walk around. I really liked the marina and all of the boats…so pretty to photograph especially with the amazing color of the ocean. It’s really a cute little place with lots of shops that I could have bought a suitcase worth of stuff! But alas, I didn’t buy a [View Full Entry]

Sunday I tried to brave it by going out to the beach in Saint James with Charlotte and Ashley. It proved to be a bit aggressive for me, but I just couldn’t imagine staying home another day on the weekend. And it was essentially a cloudless day. We took the train two stops to Saint James and I certainly enjoyed myself for the brief amount of time I was there. Took some photographs of the colorful huts along the shoreline and soaking in the sun until I felt ill again and decided to get back home. While we were in Saint [View Full Entry]

Safe arrival in Cape Town! SOOO excited to be here…even more so now that I am here. It is just stunning as are the views from the house…it’s a 360 of mountains and oceans and homes up on the hillsides…just lovely. So while I was worried about my connection in Jo-burg being a little tight I had more than enough time, even more so when my flight was delayed over an hour until 1030PM. So I finally landed around 1AM and we were at the house by 2. Amanda is the project leader who picked me up and Becky is an [View Full Entry]

My last week at African Impact in Saint Lucia was lovely. We got five new volunteers…a few of which are also on the photography project. There was one day we were driving into Khula Village and I was looking at the homes and the roads, and while they are somewhat primitive it does not appear to be “third world”, however I will note that this is what I envisioned St. Lucia to be more like prior to my arrival. It seems to look like the times we are in now and maybe that is again my expectations playing tricks on me…it [View Full Entry]

Sunday morning started with saying goodbye to Leslie. She was so cute and so sad to leave. I’ll definitely miss her around the house. Later in the morning Annabel, Gabi and I went for a two and a half hour horse ride in the bush and on the beach. It was a ton of fun, especially the beach with the breeze and the water and the sand and the CLOUDS. I’m sure my bum will be feeling it tomorrow. Later in the afternoon, Marleen, Annabel and I took Peanut to the beach for a nice hour stroll around 4. It was [View Full Entry]

Sunday was a day of rest…I slept in and walked to town to chill out and use the internet and had lunch with Gabi and Bianca…two of the other volunteers…Aussie and Dutch. We had a great time and as it turns out, it really isn’t all that inexpensive here…I think my lunch was like USD17. Came home to read my book and passed out for a few hours…not sure why I was so tired… Then we had a braai…or BBQ in American. One of the girls in the house…I feel like I’m talking about a real world house, its silly…but anyway, [View Full Entry]

I have arrived in St. Lucia and at the African Impact house. It’s a gated property as are most of the properties in South Africa for safety precautions. And it’s rather nice, despite hearing about the mosquitoes and cockroaches. We have a cook and a pool and a Jacuzzi and a common room with satellite TV and a DVD player…pretty set up here. Oh and it pretty much looks like Fred Flintstone’s house, red rock and thatched roof. We have a dog as well…looks like Daisy from my Hamptons share house and I keep calling her that despite her name being [View Full Entry]

Makes Me Wonder

 Africa » South Africa » KwaZulu-Natal » Durban
I left Zimbabwe Saturday morning with a gorgeous sun shining down for the first time in a few days…yes, I was sad to be leaving. I was heading to Zambia to catch my flight from Livingstone back to Johannesburg, South Africa and then another one to Durban. As it turned out I had a few issues this day and I’ll keep them brief cuz at the end of the day shit happens and cest la vie. The first was that my travel agent booked me to fly out of Livingstone and I didn’t know this was in another country and he [View Full Entry]
