Blog after Start of Sydney Since the last time we blogged many moons ago we have travelled about 4000 kms. We left the Blue mountains and travelled to Derek and Bretts holiday home for a while. We stayed there for about 2 weeks cooking and relaxing and just chilling out. After this we travelled up the east coast of NSW. Sadly the weather was terrible alot of the time. We played in the following hostels in return for use of their facilities. Medelucia Hostel - Anna Bay Coffs Harbour YHA Byron bay YHA In the Medelucia Hostel we met a lovely kangaroo call Jose. It was a kangaroo that was sick and had to be taken in for care. It was really cool just to see a kangaroo that was treated like a pet. While we ... read more

hey all, I know its been a long long long time since we blogged =. I think we just got a little side tracked over here in oz. :-) I am going to try fill you in as much as possible. After Sanya. We flew to Hong Kong for a day and then to Bangkok. Now we were not mad about Thailand so the only reason we did this was because it was so hard to get into any other country with regards visas. We arrived in Bangkok late in the evening and got a taxi to the hotel ( who as you would expect with Thai taxi drivers shafted us. after we got in he said he would take us to the city for 600 baht but we refused and told him the meter ... read more

SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG TIME BETWEEN BLOGS. We travelled without the laptop for a while and pretty much just slept for the last week in Oz. Plenty more soon though I swear. We still have to write about Shanghai and Thailand. Hope you enjoy this one, loads of sun and pics.. (this one is for Paul and Elaine- our partners in crime :-) SANYA, HAINAN ISLAND, SOUTHERN CHINA On the 9th January we flew to Sanya with Shanghai Air, it was a good airline and a very comfortable flight, better than we had been expected. So we arrived into Sanya in the late evening and jumped onto a bus to the centre. Got to the Sanya Eagle Hostel, and were met with disappointment. The place wasn't that clean, the bathroom wasn't the nicest and it ... read more

Beijing We landed in Beijing from Xian on the 20th of Dec 2007. The weather was a lot colder, dropping to -5 sometimes. Some of the lakes and a moat around the Forbidden City were frozen over but it didnt fell as cold as Ireland since it wasn't as humid. We also left our guide book and Macbook charger behind on the train. In our defense we were woken up at 6 am to get off the train. The first shop we went to for a new one was trying to sell it to us for 180 euro but we shopped around and found one for 80 eventually. Sadly though that was one whole days budget lost over a silly charger. We bought a new book from a hostel we went in to. Well we borrowed ... read more

Zhengzhuo - Xi'an As we were leaving Zhengzhuo we were met at the train station entrance by the two staff who had sold us the tickets the day before. We were told that they had given us the wrong ticket and only then did we see that the ticket said Beijing and not Xian. (they're not even in the same direction) I gave the tickets to one of the women and she walked off and Sinead didn't know what was happening. She didn't recognize them and was freaking out that I had given our tickets away. Then the woman explained to us again. Luckily they spotted their mistake and it was really strange that we had not checked the ticket (which we had for nearly 24 hours) to make sure it was right. Well the ... read more

Yangshuo The YHA hostel was extremely comfortable and the staff very helpful, we ended up staying 8 nights in the Senior Leader Hostel. On a couple of occasions one of the girls cooked us Yangshuo Fried Rice and a vegetable soup, she wanted to add it to the morning's breakfast and we were her ginny pigs,we liked it and she added it to the menu. Yangshuo is a small town in the Guangxi Province, surrounded by magnificent karst mountain peaks. It is a spectacular scenic spot and is renowned for it's breathtaking beauty, by artists and poets for generations. It is something of a tourist town and has one particular street called West Street or "Foreigner Street" where there is a bargain or two to be had. Students learning english flock there to practice there skills on ... read more

Since the last entry we have visited two provinces. After clearing customs and passport control we caught a train from Hong Kong heading toward Guangzhou in the Guandong province. After a 2 hour journey we arrived into Guangzhou, we were met with a very different reception. In Hong Kong we had gotten used to smiling, happy people and we were met with the far end of the scale. After freshening up we went out for a wander and a homeless guy had a monkey on a lead! He came over to us and got the monkey to start flipping over and over. A little disturbing. The next day we wandered around Guangzhou and it began to grow on us. We visited The Orchid Gardens and had tea served to us on a veranda in the traditional ... read more

HONG KONG We arrived in Hong Kong quite late so we decided to stay in the airport hotel. It was pretty expensive but we were just too tired. The next day we checked out and got a hotel in the city centre on Hong Kong island (the Park Lane). It was really nice with views of Victoria Park. We were lost after we came out of the subway from the airport looking for it and some random American guy tried to help but instead actually sent us in the totally wrong direction. However a really nice local guy stopped to help us and told us he worked right beside the hotel so he walked us right to it. He was genuinely just trying to help unlike in Bangkok where someone would help you then tell u ... read more
