Our mission was to bike a whopping 800 kms from Hamilton to Mahia Peninsula (just south of Gisborne) via the coastal road. This journey is a celebration of the opportunity that is life - of getting back up and again taking on challenges. A once extreme adventurist fought for his life after a freak accidental fall off a 12 metre cliff. Twenty months later he has miraculously bounced right back to a state of physical fitness he formerly owned. Both Stefan and his partner, Madeleine, have learnt appreciation for people with disabilities. The objective of our journey was to raise aware [View Full Entry]

Tour De Vietnam Asia » Vietnam
To bike- that is bicycle, not motorbike, around Vietnam is to be a part of Vietnam, not just to see it. Mission: Buy bikes, helmets, locks, and a map in Ho Chi Minh. One would expect to be able to find such a map that had details required such as distance and road names. It is not that I couldn't find one, it is that they simply do not exist! Our calculations we needed to make for our bike rides became a guessing game. Locals didn't even know the exact distances between towns. All they could say was how long it [View Full Entry]

20th Jan 08- Stepping out into central Bangkok suburbia there are Tuk Tuks, Taxis, cars, bikes and motorbikes crowding the narrow side street. The place stinks! It smells like souridge, only it ios not. Anna has been here 4 days now waiting for my arrival and she said to me "This is nothing yet, so get used to it"... We catch a cab to Chatuchak market. 140 k per hour down the highway in a taxi we were there in no time. Wiping the light sweat off my forehead and releasing my fingernails from the seat, i pay the driver 140Baht. [View Full Entry]

Surfing Queensland Oceania » Australia » Queensland
Over the past 3 months I have been cruising around the Sunshine coast in my van. Two friends came over to join me from Germany and from New Zealand. Anna, Ilana and I cruized the coast from Noosa Heads down to Byron Bay, W.A. All up it has been a 6 month venture in Queensland. It was supposed to be only 2 weeks to visit my parents in their new settlment, that grew to a month so I could stay for my brothers birthday, and then it somehow extended out to 6 whole months! (with other holidays inbetween ofcourse; to Darwin [View Full Entry]

"Come and visit me" says Dad over the phone. "OK!" I say... and just a few days later I was there, in crocodile territory again. Shaking hands with all the wildlife and enjoying those typical tropical days that Darwin never lacks. Going home to where all your childhood memories is always a nice feeling. But seeing it again when you're 3 feet taller and able to drive yourself around puts the place into even better perspectives. Dad lent me his 4wdrive which was quite the luxury considering it saved me 1/2 hour walks in 32 degree heats and no shade. [View Full Entry]

It all started when I dragged myself into planting strawberries at Peter youngs fields up in the glass house mountains. I mannaged to drag mum along with me. Although the work was back-breaking, I was surrounded by good, fun loving, down to earth company. There I met four crazy Estonians, Tuuli, Kraaks, Woza, and Anika. With the strange language they sang and the odd things they danced and not knowing where the hell Estonia was, I was convinced they were actually undercover extra terrestrials. To much pleasantness I found I fit in with them quite well, but afterall I am [View Full Entry]

WARNING- convict on the loose!

My new years resolution is a quest to find more on my family history... So off I trot from Nelson, New Zealand to see my Papa, wife Heidi, and half brother Paul. They pick me up from the airport and drive me half hour into the adelaide hills to a cute 'hick' town full of history itself; Kanmantoo. The original streets are dirt roads, dry stack wall fences, and some of the locals still live in the first Bluestone and limestone houses from the early settlers (1840). They are so old they look like they're about to fall over... the houses, [View Full Entry]
