well, I think I will have one more entry before I go, but it is possibly my last one as I have a long busride ahead tomorrow evening, a bit of shopping to do, plus saying my farewells to the latino world... only to say hello to the chicano world in cali. :) so today I arrived back in Cuzco from the one and only machu picchu. Unfortunately I am extremely tired so I won't be able to describe in this email the extent of my love and amazement that I have for this truly magnificent lugar. It was absoutely breathtaking, [View Full Entry]

What a country and what a rollercoaster of a week!! The past 10 minutes describes my last few days perfectly. Just 10 minutes ago I was finishing a wonderful dinner with a young friendly israeli who I met at the restaurant. It was nice meal (nachos, quinua soup, pollo saltado, & coca tea) served by really friendly young cuzceños... walking out of there on a high, about to write about how perfect this wonderful city, Cuzco, is; I walked down the street, 2 guys offered me drugs, when I refused the second proceeded to beg for money, and then threatening to [View Full Entry]

So I am here, the final destination: Peru. Spent the first day in Lima, walking around the financial district with a group of Israelis. Tomorrow I head down to the desert, and in a few days will celebrate my birthday in the Andes in Arequipa. I will finish my trip in Cuzco, probably won't hike machu picchu, but will visit for sure. I am so excited to be here. Already it has such a different feel, part of which is probably just my mindset, but already the people, their faces, mannerisms, etc. are different. And the crafts are incredible. There'll be [View Full Entry]

Rain is a lovely thing. I know after virtually two straight months of it, all of you back in SF are relieved for some sun; but here in southern costa rica, the rain is aplenty and my heart is ahappy. This of course is coming from a person whose dream for many years was to move up to seattle, in a large part for the weather. I expected a lot more of it, being down here in the rain forest, but have had as many days of rain, as months that I've been traveling... well maybe a bit more, but not [View Full Entry]

This is gonna be a bit less about the sites around me, and a bit more about what is goin on in my head, so bear with me if you wish. so for the past few days, I have been spending my time in Granada (looking up jobs online :S), nearby at the laguna de apoyo, and yesterday at the market in Masaya (looking at hammocks and Nica baseball jerseys). I think my first reaction of complete enamor and excitement of the city has cooled down (though the temperatures sure haven't, it is by far the hottest place I have been [View Full Entry]

maybe it is a little premature to say this, being that I-ve only been here 10 minutes, but I already love Granada and Nicaragua and the place I'm staying, the bearded monkey. I met some great locals on the bus, everyone at the hostel is really friendly. I find myself again in awe of colonial buildings. The town is quiet, at least what I-ve seen, and so is the hostel. The hostel has all of these great drawings and political articles posted on the walls, a nice courtyard with trees, and curry!! okay off to eat a bit but mostly just [View Full Entry]

well... a bit sooner and a lot sorer than expected, I'm back in San Jose just for the day, and head off to Nicaragua mañana (as long as I can buy a ticket). I'm just returning from eating a great filling lunch at a vegitarian fast food chain of sorts, where a veggie soup, brown rice, veggie curry, salad, fruit drink, and ice cream, costed less then 4 bucks! Julie and Joel, you'd love it! So now, onto my recent adventure... Chirippó. Beautiful but not too kind on the body. I went up friday morning, leaving at 8 from the park [View Full Entry]

ciao tutti! I'm hoping my exhaustion that has been building for weeks won´t make this dull and confusing. Forgive me if it does. At the moment I´m in a town called San Isidro, at the base of a mountain range called chirripo, the second tallest in central america. Tomorrow I climb for 10 hours or so, with my big bag (minus the things I left in SJ) but made up for in food supplies. Despite the long hike, at nightfall tomorrow I still won't be at the top. I´ll stay at the lodge up there, and will finish the climb the [View Full Entry]
