Hello everyone! This was my last week in Edinburgh; I’m surprised how fast time really does fly. This week was jam packed with activities. Last Saturday a group of us American students went on a pub-crawl on Rose Street. It was really fun. We went to several pubs, including a karaoke pub in which Scottish people were belting out anything from Beatles to Elton John, it was pretty funny. On Monday Edinburgh had the greatest weather ever. A group of us went and chilled on Arthur’s Seat, which is a giant dormant volcano next to the residence halls. It was really [View Full Entry]

Greetings everyone! This weekend my friend Shelby came to visit with a couple of her friends. Shelby is studying this semester in London and decided to take a weekend trip up to Scotland. They arrived on Friday by train. I caught up with them after they had toured the castle. We went on a Ghosts & Ghouls tour of Edinburgh. I have been meaning to do one of these tours since Edinburgh is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in Europe... The tour was fun. We had a guide named Liz who walked us around various parts of [View Full Entry]

Hello everybody! This last weekend I went on phase two of my spring break holiday. Last Friday I woke up around 7:30 to catch a plane to Paris. I was meeting my friend Jenna there - she was supposed to go the last time that I went in January, however, plans changed. Anyway, so I was walking to the bus station to take the bus to the airport when I realized that my flight was at 9: 25 and there was no way that I would make it if I had to take the 20 minute walk to the bus, and [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Sorry for posting almost a month! I've been traveling like crazy during my ridiculously long spring break. On March 22nd, I took an Easyjet plane to Amsterdam, Holland with my friend Brittany. Once we arrived, we took a train to downtown Amsterdam where we were greeted by several of our friends who had traveled to Holland the night before. We took a tram to our hostel that was about a 15 minute ride from the city center. The hostel itself appeared to be a hotel that had decided to pack two or three bunk beds into each room. The [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't written in a couple weeks. I decided last week to spare you the boring events that was last week. Last week there was nothing out of the ordinary that happened, pub quizzes and homework. I was chained to my computer finishing yet another essay. It was finished on Tuesday. I was writing a paper for my European History class and had to write about why some countries recovered from the economic crisis of the 1930s easier than others. It wasn't that bad once I got going. On Friday me and some friends went to see the [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Unfortunately, there was no big travels this week. :-( But I did do some fun things. On Tuesday, me and some friends went and sat in the folk music club's rehearsal. It was really interesting, all of the members just brought their stringed instruments and jammed. There seemed to be an excess amount of fiddles/violins, but it was a really cool experience. At one point, a kilt-wearing man showed up with a bagpipe and played (the bagpipe is a REALLY loud instrument when played in a small room.) The rest of the week went on, me and my friend [View Full Entry]

Hi everybody! Sorry for not writing on Sunday as usual, I've been really busy. My parents came to visit me and celebrate my birthday this weekend. Last Tuesday, my dad arrived. He was already in Europe, attending the World Toy Convention in Nuremberg, Germany. He arrived in the afternoon and after my noon class, we hiked up to the top of Arthur's Seat. Arthur's seat is a massive extinct volcano in the middle of the city. It took us about thirty minutes to get to the top. Once we reached the top we had sandwiches that we had brought. The view [View Full Entry]

Howdy everybody! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. This weekend was really fun. Me and two of my friends went to the small city of Stirling. Stirling is about an hour bus ride out of Edinburgh and is famous for two things, the Stirling Castle and the William Wallace Monument. Me and my two friends left Edinburgh by bus early on Saturday morning. We ate some sandwiches on the bus and got into Stirling an hour later. The day was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and the weather in the mid 40's. The bus dropped us off at [View Full Entry]

Greetings everyone! This week went by really fast! The whole "being here to study thing" is finally kicking in. 2 essays and an assignment due in a few weeks, the "I'm on vacation" buzz is slightly dampened, but still there! This week I went with several friends to different pub quizzes at various pubs throughout the week. A pub quiz is basically trivia pursuit, except that we are on teams, there is drinking involved, and in many circumstances, there is a cash prize. It's really fun, but the questions can be impossible, especially during the sports section, where they focus on [View Full Entry]

Paris

 Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris
Bon Jour everyone! So this week, after spending Monday through Wednesday in Edinburgh, eating leek and chicken pot pie, I got the chance to go to Paris for an extended weekend. My mom had meetings at the France office earlier in the week and invited me to fly down to visit (who can reject Paris I'll never know?!) On Thursday after class, around 2:30, I took a bus to the Edinburgh airport and flew to France. The flight was a bit bumpy, but only took 2 hours. Upon landing, I got into a taxi and drove to the hotel where my [View Full Entry]
