Things are a bit out of order, but this is Chris' contribution about our third day at Kirkman's Camp. Matt and I woke up at about 5:50, 10 minutes before our wake up call from Sean. We heard the knock on Mum and Dad’s room just before us, so we yelled out “Good morning Sean” I don’t think he bothered to knock on our door, he just replied Ï thought I told you two to sleep until I came” We all got up and started to get ready, brushed our teeth, got changed then got our socks then shoes on. I picked up my ipod up off the bed and creaked open the door slowly as we were told to do because sometimes elephants are outside your door and what do you know….there was no elephant ... read more

The first full day of our safari stared with a wake- up call at 5:30 then some tea and coffee before our morning safari and we saw Impala, again, and again, and again. Then Elvis spotted some Leopard tracks and started to track the Leopard through a donga, a river bed, there was some really serious 4-wheel driving. While Sean and Elvis tracked the illusive Leopard we saw a dazzle of Zebra, a herd of Elephant, Kudu, an e agle owl, a Bataleur eagle, various types of buck before finally finding the Leopard named as Scotia’s daughter, who was just lazing in the grass, but everyone was still really excited. Then Chris and I went for a swim but no diving catches this time, too many people. So we got out pretty quickly and then went ... read more

By Chris this time. We woke up in the morning and I had a bacon cheese tomato omelette. When we were about to leave to the airport we met a couple Adam and Sarah who were from New York and we shared a taxi bus to the airport. They talked about their jobs, and they were both literature professors and I showed Sarah my Ricky Ponting book as an example of Australian literature. Adam was originally from London so he got the joke. We got on the plane and everyone was squished up so the pilot asked Mum if she wanted to come up to the front seat but Mum let me go up instead. When I got up there I had to put on four different seatbelts and I had hundreds of knobs and buttons ... read more

Africa » South Africa » Gauteng » Pretoria April 11th 2014

Yesterday we were going to catch the train to Pretoria, South Africa’s capital, but to do that we had to find the station, so with dud confident that he could take us to the station direct, we wondered through the streets in circles for half an hour until dud swallowed his pride and asked for directions. From the station we caught the train to Pretoria and set off from the station to find the parliament house, and lo, more wandering under the guidance of the great dud. Then he again relented and we caught the bus back to the train station were we got a taxi to monument hill from there we climbed the 500 steps up to the top were I looked town and my legs literally turned to jelly as the marble floor made ... read more

Mum, Dad, Chris and I flew out from Perth to Joburg at midnight, it was hell. The only positive was the fact we had a spare seat next to us so we could sort off lie down during the flight. There were two twins behind us that cried ALOT!! Dad had also ditched us for business class… >: (Chris and I slept for four hours and Mum for two… dad probably slept the whole flight.) We landed, after what seemed like an eternity, at 4:30 am local time, an 11 hour flight. We got to our hotel at 6 and checked into a temporary room so we could freshen up and relax. We had breakfast (see paragraph7) I had a bacon and cheese omelette. Then we went to Sandton city, like a giant shopping centre – ... read more

MATT Today we got on the hop on hop off tour bus to ride around Santa Monica, where our hotel is. It took us into Beverley Hills where we walked around a bit. We saw the Beverley Hills shield which is so famous it is copyrighted. We walked along Rodeo Drive, I'm telling you it was like no normal cars allowed. There were Masseratis, Ferraris, Rollers, not to mention the Bughatti in the photo(the fastest legal car you can have on the road.) We then got on the red route bus which took us to Hollywood and we got our first glimpse of the Hollywood sign. We went for a walk around Hollywood Bvd and saw lots of stars that belong to the stars: Michael J Fox, Hugh Jackman, Michael Jackson, Walt Disney, Bugs Bunny, the ... read more

MATT We got up and had an early morning swim, lazing around because today we were going up to Santa Monica and our bus wasn't to come until lunch time. We spent most of the morning catching up on the blogs, that's why so many came up at once. The bus driver was absolutely hysterical and blew up with road rage over the tiniest thing. At our hotel in Santa Monica, directly in front of the beach, as the afternoon wore down we went for a walk down to Venice Beach. I can tell you it is not somewhere that I will come back to for a while. There were alot of creepy people trying to sell you things, including weed smokers and shops that you see occasionally that sell it. We had dinner at an ... read more

MATTHEW Today we took the Monorail in early. At that time, it was only meant to be for Disney Resort Guests and we weren't Guests and we were about to walk away when the lady at the gate said "Wait, I can make Magic happen" and we were allowed on. When we got into Disneyland we got onto the Finding Nemo ride which is basically just a rip off of the Great Barrier Reef, I didn't enjoy it very much, I guess that's because I've been to the real thing. The guy who was a guide had a really cheesy Australian accent and started using these slogans like "Check ya later" and "G'day mate" and all of these other things. We went on Big Thunder Mountain again which was even funner than I remember because the ... read more

MATTHEW Today we finally made to Disneyland. We arrived half an hour early and when we got in we went straight to TomorrowLand and Chris and I were the first ones on the Astro-orbiter. Then we went onto the Buzz Lightyear ride which is pretty fun because you sit in a cart and move it around and shoot things. We went to FantasyLand and went on a lot of rides, like Toad Hall, Snow White Scary Adventures and we did Peter Pan. After that we went on Space Mountain. It was really dark and jerky and scary but it was also extremely awesome. The best thing about Space Mountain was that you couldn't predict the next turn because it was pretty dark, so it was like a rollercoaster ride in the dark. Next we went to ... read more

MATTHEW We were back on the bus tours again, except with a different tour guide this time, whose name was Sean. He took us to see the 911 Memorial. The waterfalls sits where the twin towers once stood and they're huge. There were too many names in the memorial. We saw a tree which oddly enough survived the attack, of course it had the old top part of it blown off, but it started to re-sprouted so now you can see a line where the old part is and the new part. In New York they have so many taxis including water taxis - which are boats. We caught one of those and on the way to catch the boat we saw a navy aircraft carrier which was pretty cool. The water taxis took us out ... read more
