Palenque is a fine example of a Mayan sanctuary of the classical period. The city was at its height between 500 and 700 A.D. The buildings are decorated with relief´s showing Mayan mythology. The Palenque temple-complex now is situated in jungle-like surroundings. The numerous (partly restored) remains of the Maya-architecture are quite well-preserved. Only 34 of the estimated 500 constructions in the area have been revealed. Together they give an impression what the city would have looked like during its heydays (although at that time the stones were colored red instead of gray). One of [View Full Entry]

Chichen Itza was a major regional focal point in the northern Maya lowlands from the Late Classic through the Terminal Classic and into the early portion of the Early Postclassic period. The site exhibits a multitude of architectural styles, from what is called “Mexicanized” and reminiscent of styles seen in central Mexico to the Puuc style found among the Puuc Maya of the northern lowlands. The presence of central Mexican styles was once thought to have been representative of direct migration or even conquest from central Mexico, but most contemporary interpretations view the pres [View Full Entry]

Uaxactun (pronounced ) is an ancient ruin of the Maya civilization, located in the Petén Basin region of the Maya lowlands, in the present-day department of Petén, Guatemala. The site lies some 40 km (24.9 mi) north of the major center of Tikal. The name is sometimes spelled as Waxaktun. With recent achievements in the decipherment of the ancient Maya hieroglyphic writing system, it has been determined that the ancient name for this site was something like Siaan K’aan or "Born in Heaven". The name "Uaxactun" was given to the site by its rediscoverer, United States [View Full Entry]

Hello friends...Its taking me a while to post new entries, I know I'm a bit behind I'm just having too much fun and keep forgeting to post. Tikal is the largest excavated site in the American continent. It is Guatemala’s most famous cultural and natural preserve. Tikal possesses a certain magic... Like all puzzles without answers it fascinates everyone and we dare say... Tikal is so irresistible once you are here, you’ll find yourself wanting to stay just a little longer! . RIO DULCE
RIO DULCE
AMAZING BEAUTIFUL PLACE
Rio Dulce is a river running from Lake Izabal, in the eastern part of Guatemala, to the Carribean. The river itself is exquisite, with graceful birds and tall cliffs overflowing with lush flora. In the area, you'll also find: * Livingston, an extremely fun and interesting Carribean town. The town is populated by the Garifuna people of African origin with a laid-back Carribean attitude, their own language (though they tend to speak Spanish and English as well), and a style of dancing known as punta that requires the hips to move faster than lightening. Livingston is where tourists gen [View Full Entry]

Iximché is a Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican archaeological site in the western highlands of Guatemala. The site's name, Iximché, dervives from the mayan words ixim (maize/corn) and ché (tree), resulting in "Place of the Maize tree." Iximché was the main city of the Kaqchikel Maya people, founded in the Razumiat mountains by Kikab the great in A.D. 1470 and after the abandonement of Chaviar, (Chichicastenango). The city was governed by four lords, Tzotzil, Xahil, Tucuché and Acajal, who were in charge of all administrative and religious affairs, including war. Very powerful energy on this maya sit [View Full Entry]
