Hi to you all and a very happy new year, had a fantastic night here in Auckland, not too much to drink but the atmosphere was brilliant, absolutely no drinking allowed on the streets so it's the first new year we did'nt have a drink in our hand to toast the new year. The fireworks were amazing! both from the tower & from somewhere off shore, we did'nt know which way too look, what a wonderful night, we walked back to our hotel and stopped for a McDonalds ice cream on the way, it's got to be a first for me to be eating ice cream at 2am in a morning!. The icing on the cake had to be New years day, we went on a trip looking for Dolphins & Whales, we were lucky enough ... read more

Hi all, trusting you all had a great christmas, our's was very different but wonderful, will back track a bit to fill you in. dec 24th we left Christchurch again, just ahead of further earthquakes!, travelled to Blenhiem lovely place but only 3 bars! tried em all but not to our taste so xmas eve was relatively quiet, as was the whole town, looked as if it would be worth a revisit, lots to see but not enough time. Christmas day we were on the ferry to the North Island, the crossing was like a millpond, sun was shining and we got a bit burnt as we did'nt realise just how hot it was!, spent the night in Wellington, lovely buffet meal provided but everywhere was closed when we went for an evening stroll, very different ... read more

hi all,Heard about all the snow disruption at home,we have had some of the heavy rain storms that have hit Australia, but at least it is warm. After we left Milford sound we journeyed to Queenstown, what a fantastic place. We went up the gondola to see some fantastic views looking down on the city and surrounding areas. The following evening we went on the TSS Earnslaw a 1912 steamboat over to Walterpeak sheep farm. The farmer managed to make a sheep shearing demo extremely funny and entertaining. We had a wonderful 4 course meal on the farm.We then headed out to Haast which is in a world heritage conservation area, also on the main earthquake fault line. This is our least favorite place at present.Today we travelled via franz josef glacier toGreymouth, we had a scenic flight booked over the glacier but yet again ... read more

Hi all, arrived here in Queenstown yesterday, lovely hotel overlooking the beautiful harbour. when we left Te Anau early yesterday we travelled down to Milford sound, it was raining which we were told you make the boat trip even better, we wound our way down through the southern alps along some outstanding scenery, sheer drops on one side and mountains on the other with beautiful waterfalls along the way. Our Maori bus driver gave us a running commentry as we went, describing all the native trees and plants, he is very knowledgable and has told us how in maori legends places such as Devil's leap, Knobs Flat, Kelvin's Heights and so many more gained there names, it's quite fascinating. When we got to the bottom we went on to Milford sound which was wonderful, it was ... read more

Hi all, another great day, started off a bit damp and cloudy but turned to beautiful sun and temp of 27c, we heard you all had some more snow! Anyway our day started with a visit to Larnoch castle, way up high on a mountain, the views were wonderful once the low cloud had gone, if we can download pics you will see( yes we going to attempt again!).We arrived in a lovely place called Te Anau which is by another lake, they certainly seem to have plenty of water!. We have had more time to get to know our travel companions, there is only 14 of us on a 47 seater coach so we have plenty of room to spread out, we have 1 girl on her own from Wales, 2 seperate parties from Finland, ... read more

Hi all, arrived in wet Dunedin today17th,after leaving the idillic setting of lake Ohau, went to look at the Moeraki boulders on a beach which the maori think are still growing, instead of being washed away by the tide,.we stopped at a small place which was like stepping back 20yrs or more, i think it was called Oamaru, they had recently had Steam punk festival where they had really old steam engines of all sorts made into weird looking engines, amazing what some folk do for entertainment! also visited Olvaston house, a lovely place which used to be owned by an englishman, now beautifully preserved. Final item for the day was the piping in of the Haggis(Dunedin being a Scottish town) which was good ending in a sample of whiskey which pleased Keith. Being Bids we are still ... read more

Hi all, having great time, we left Christchurch today 16th, we travelled to Lake Ohau where we are staying in a log cabin at the edge of the lake, it's beautiful! on the way we stopped at Lake Tekapo and saw the church of the good shepard where Janes daughter was married 5yrs ago, very pretty place and very special to Jane and David.
