Geo: 12.7953, 99.9662First world problems, but Thailand was exactly what I needed, a holiday (despite being away from home for 8 months already). Thus, we really didn't do much, so one entry is sufficient. Coming from Vietnam/Cambodia the weather was pretty cool, although it only rained once or twice, not the usual 2-3 hours in the arvo on a daily basis. We checked out MBK to get the crystals again and then back to Terminal 21 as mum realised that she was so obsessed with the toilets last time that she didn't look at the mall itself (feel free to judge, I am). The brownie Gods delivered in the form of Secret Recipe, which completely lived up to expectations. Not much changed at Cabbages and Condoms, other than the spin board telling you what STD you ... read more

Geo: 12.7953, 99.9662Bananas for breakfast finally!!! WOW. My whole reason for coming to Thailand is because they have amazing little bananas. I never eat bananas at home but here - quite a few ended up in my bag to take back for lunch. (I was generous enough to let Mel take two with her). Poor Mel was upset as we finally got bananas - on her last morning here. Melissa packed the last few bits and pieces, I made her a lunch box to take with her (well a saladas box - with saladas cheese and vegemite, small cakes, chips, bananas and some chocolates and cold water). I transferred all of Melissa's Europe photos from her external hard drive to mine so we will have a copy if anything goes wrong!!! Can't wait to go through ... read more

Geo: 12.7953, 99.9662Melissa spent the morning working out what clothes she was taking and leaving. We headed down for an afternoon swim in the little pool as at least there was a bit of shade there. Mel headed up for a shower and was able to wave to us from the balcony when she was finished. I headed up with mum following ten minutes later. Mum and I watched the sky darken and not long after she got to room the storm hit. Suddenly the pool was filled with frangipani flowers that hit the top end of the pool then sailed slowly down and turned into the spa and neatly collected there. It is always fun watching the staff trying to put down the sheet over the entry mat to the main building to help keep ... read more

Geo: 12.8051, 99.9871There was a large crowd of sellers opposite the hotel this morning. They do seem to know when a conference is on - if there are no large groups then there are no sellers. There were a couple selling the dried fish things, a t shirt seller, one selling curtains made from seashells as well as a few other odd sellersWe caught a taxi from Mr Long into Hua Hin at 10am and headed straight to the bus depot to get the ticket from Cha Am to Bangkok airport on Wednesday for Melissa. From there we went to Market Village shopping centre. We went into tescos and spent way too long looking for a few grocery items that we needed - deodorant ,floss, hair spray, coffee, cheese etc. We finally got to cash register ... read more

Geo: 12.8047, 99.987Breakfast was full today from all the conference people which means a bigger selection of food. After breakfast Melissa and I hired some bikes for 40 baht each and rode up to the fishing village. It was interesting seeing the changes over the last four years. There is a new hotel being built not far from here - before the bridge. There is a massive new - don't know how to describe it - shed with a whole heap of Buddhas and animals in there to worship. Look at photos!!!The monks have spent a fortune on it. Despite the heat and sun we made it to the fishing village and rode along the pier to the end then stopped on the way back for photos. 'The boat' that we have seen on each trip ... read more

Geo: 12.8047, 99.987We all slept late this morning. Mum is usually up at 7 for a Swim. This morning she didn't wake until 8 so no early swim. Down to breaky. More people today so a bigger breakfast which is always great. Started with the cocoa pop things as usual then proceeded to my other 5 courses. They had moved the bacon and sausages and ham to a different section so we didn't see it until we had finished. Oh well - plenty of other things to eat - but maybe not the red Thai curry!!! Picklets today had small brightly coloured jelly square sort of things in them today so holes were quickly dug to excavate them out!!!! They had lime today so we were able to have sugar and lime juice on them (next ... read more

Asia » Thailand July 22nd 2016

Geo: 12.7953, 99.9662Started the day the way all days start here. Out of bed about 8am. Down to breakfast for an hour or so then back to room. Picklets are only every second day so we missed out today - very disappointing. We went for a swim in the second pool and I climbed behind the bar and turned on the squirting fish and umbrella waterfall. It was great seeing some of the children later on enjoying this new novelty as it is never turned on by staff and most guests wouldn't know that it squirted water let alone howWe had our breakfast acquired lunch - mum had a salad and I had cheese and tomato on saladas from home. Mel had vegemite and saladas. After lunch Mel and I walked down to the bakery for ... read more

Geo: 13.7388, 100.558I woke before alarm was due to go off at 7am. Quietly jumped in shower but took ages to get it adjusted. Heard a noise - there is mum on the toilet!! Mel was walking by time I was dressed. Finished packing and down to breakfast. Watched as an Indian man moved a slice of bread from the bread tray with his hand - then a few slices - then a handful of slices. He finally got to the slices he wanted so then used tongs to pick the slices up and place them into the toaster!!!!!! Ordered three serves of bacon and got four but at least it is normal bacon not the horrible beef bacon that some hotels serve. After the small breakfast of coco pops, bacon eggs and toast, one hotcake ... read more

Geo: 13.7388, 100.558Mel and I decided today that we would go to the Flower Market after Breakfast then to MBK. We went and asked at the taxi rank but the tuk tuk driver said 500 baht which was way too much. We headed into Terminal 21 to see if we could catch public transport there but it was going to be using the public bus system that we didn't understand. We headed off to MBK via the train. We found a crystal place that was 600 baht each so we got one of just Melissa and one of the two of us. We were able to have three photos taken to then choose from. To have the crystals made, you need to sit in a photo booth while the machine takes your photo. The man was ... read more

Geo: 13.7388, 100.558Peter walked around to my place in the balmy zero degrees. I was pretty much ready to go so only left 5 minutes later than planned at 6.50am. Peter drove my car, we stopped at Maccas on bypass for breakfast before picking mum up. The temp had risen to 4 degrees by this time. Why are we leaving?!?!There were no problems getting to the airport - a really good run. Drop-off area was full and we weren't allowed to wait for a car to finish unloading their passengers so we had to keep moving. Peter decided - as lots of others were doing it - to angle park to unload us. Of course that meant the taxi behind couldn't go until we finished unpacking. Oh well!! We quick jump out and I out my ... read more
