Tuesday 20 August Today, we are all heading off to Palm Valley in the Finke Gorge National Park, Jo and Andrew are on their way home after their holiday and despite having spent a couple of nights with us have decide to come into Palm Valley with us for a quick look before heading off. A number of people have mentioned that Palm Valley is worthy of a look so it could not be missed. We were both up early and fairly swiftly we had packed up, unfortunately Andrew could not get his Landcruiser started, the battery was flat so Andy had to give him jump start. In the meantime an elderly lady who was travelling on her own wandered over and asked Andy if he knew anything about tyres. Apart from the usual joke that ... read more

Sunday 18 August Well finally the morning that we have planned to hit the road again has arrived, this is weird moving again after 2 whole weeks in the same place. Alice has been lovely, despite our pressures of getting the towbar and the welding sorted out it has been great here but time to go, we both feel the need to get back out of town and back to bush camping. Opening my eyes to welcome the new day in, I heard those words "Happy Anniversary!" For a brief moment I had forgotten it was our 23rd wedding anniversary today, when we got married I don't think I could ever have imagined waking up in Alice Springs on any of our anniversaries let alone the 23rd. Andy is out of bed early, I could hear ... read more

Friday 16 August Today is meant to be a warm day, the predicted temperature is 34 degrees C, so we are up early, grab breakfast and head to the post office to pick up some more mail that has been sent to us and then we drive out to the Ross Highway with the full intention of making it to Arltunga ruins. We have plenty of water on board and have packed some lunch, the day is not so warm yet, it is cloudy and the wind has a fair chill to it, so much so at the first stop of the day, Emily Gap, we are happy to be putting long sleeves on to keep the cold wind off. The gap is quite busy with visitors, a few people would appear to be having an ... read more

First thing on the Monday morning Andy took Jack (The Landcruiser) to the welders so that we could have the sub frame welded up in preparation for the new tow bar, at that stage we did not know who would be paying for it but whatever happened we still needed the work carried out and whilst we were waiting for people to argue, we were sitting around gathering costs. Our week was still being consumed by the tow bar drama so we could not really go very far but late on the Tuesday afternoon we visited the Old Telegraph Station, which has a varied history attached to it, opened in 1872 as a Telegraph station played a very key role in the development of Australia reducing the isolation of Australians from the rest of the world, ... read more

Sunday There is a main event here on Sundays and that is free pancake's! Joy, we headed off to the larger barbecue area in the main section of the caravan park, there is already a long queue of people with mugs and plates at the ready. We join the queue and fortunately it does not take long to go down. It looks like the guys making the pancakes have done this before, probably a hundred or so times before, they seem to have such a good routine going I feel that I need to make sure I am promptly ready with my plate otherwise my pancake my hit the floor and I don't want to ruin the efficiency of this magnificent breakfast feast. They advertise the mans record stands at 13 pancakes and the ladies at ... read more

Saturday 10 August We decided to dedicate this blog to our Dads, because of their strong connections with the Transport industry throughout their careers so John (Caroline's Dad) and Derek (Andy's Dad, passed away in 1994) this one is for you. The weekend arrived and nothing was going to happen with the tow bar saga which meant we could still not move the trailer, so we decided to make the most of the weekend and be tourists again, although I am feeling very much like a local right now. First on the list was the National Road Transport Hall of Fame which was back out of town on the way to the airport. This had been recommended to us by a number of people as worthy of a visit, and let me tell you they were ... read more

Because we have been quite busy throughout the week, we have not chosen to write a blog everyday to cover what we have been doing, otherwise you would be bored, so I am going to do my best to give you a précis of what has been happening while we have been in Alice Springs. Early in the week it seemed like everyone has a problem, I have seen several vehicles loaded onto recovery vehicles and taken away from the camp site or dropping off the occupants in accommodation and then taken away, I feel sorry for them and wonder how far away they were when their misfortune struck. As our week went on it became evident that we were incredibly lucky not to have befallen the same fate to arrive in Alice Springs on a ... read more

Ok, so we know this probably has been used as a blog title a million times before, but we just couldn't resist. Saturday 3 August Waking up at Old Andado Station, I had thought that perhaps today we would make Alice Springs, eager to stock up on groceries and get into civilisation, but that said, we should just take our time travelling up the Binns Track and enjoy the environment, another day before getting into Alice won't make a difference. Andy finished off fixing the trailer lights, we left the caution sign on anyway, just in case they failed again before reaching Alice Springs. I went to put our $20 in the pot for our overnight stay but I am fairly low on cash, I only have a $50 note and there is no change available, ... read more

Tuesday 30 July I woke early when I heard sounds of something rummaging in our gear behind the swag, I saw a dingo, I think my stirring must have disturbed him as he moved away quickly and I saw him drop a plastic jug that he was carrying. Because we have no plastic tubs left (destroyed on the Simpson crossing), we left a few things on the ground last night, we were not too bothered because dingo's are really only interested in food and leather shoes. When we are reunited with Gypsy we will have a sort out of our gear again, it might be time to dispose of some old and worn items. I think it was about 6am when Andy started talking to me, I soon put paid to that and went back to ... read more
