Well as the title suggests, there really isn´t much to write about Iguazu falls and the national park, its all about the photographic evidence. We went to Brasil to see the falls from their perspective the first day. The weather was not fantastic but we resolved to make the most of what we saw. The views were spectacular and we were certainly more than impressed with what we saw, we returned to Argentina a little damp but happy that the falls were what we had expected them to be, fantastic. Day 2 and it was time for the Argentine side of [View Full Entry]

After the boozy and foody heights of Mendoza, we trooped east to the Big One, the one that we had heard from almost everyone was amazing, and the one we were looking forward to the most...... Buenos Aires. We arrived again expecting much, and we got plenty. After spending lots of time in Peru and Bolivia, the relative luxuries of Argentina had been warmly welcomed, but we weren´t ready for the complete European styles that B.A had. With more shopping options than London and much better nightlife too, it´s hard to place B.A in the catagory of South American Capital City. [View Full Entry]

After leaving Salta and moving south towards the city of Mendoza, there was only one thing on our minds...... Wine. Oh the hallowed grape of Argentina which had already given us much cause for celebration and saved us some money on the drinking front, it was finally within our grasp. We had heard from numerous sources that when we arrived in Mendoza there was only on place to go to get a proper experience of the vineyards, and that place was Mr Hugos. One Dutch guy we met went on about Mr Hugo so much that we thought it must be [View Full Entry]

After bidding our sad farewells to Bolivia we still had to endure the coldest bus journey in the world to reach the typically shabby and horrid border town of La Quiaca, and possibly the coldest 20 minute walk ever, being harrangued by huge Bolivian women reeking of Coca leaves trying to sell us bus tickets to apparently anywhere we desired to go. After fending them off and a small amount of confusion as to where we needed to go to enter Argentina, (Spanish is much harder to understand when every man and their dog are wearing unnecessary swine flu masks, its [View Full Entry]

After leaving the coldness of Potosi, we entered the cold and bleak town of Uyuni, the jump off point for visiting the salt flats. Now we have seen some grim places on this trip and well this has to be the winner (apart from Tegucigalpa in Honduras which was worse if not different). Uyuni was a cross between a recently bombed communist bloc town and a dusty and much scarier version of a mad max film, if that can be imagined!! Fortunately we only had to endure this hell for one night, but this was made more surreal with the news [View Full Entry]

Well once leaving the hard to leave La Paz we boldly moved on to see the other attractions of Bolivia. We were unsure of what to expect from the next few places we would visit and were more than pleasantly suprised with what we found. First stop was Cochabamba, a fairly large city outside La Paz and on the way to Sucre. Reasons to visit this place appeared to be limited, and our main reason was that it was home to the fictional drug lord who hanged his enemies from Helicopters in the film Scarface ( or it was my reason [View Full Entry]

When we arrived in La Paz, a city which, like so many others we ended up spending more time in than was probably necessary, we were pleasantly surprised. The highest Capital city in the world (although Sucre is actually the official Capital of Bolivia) we had thought it would be a typical South American city, busy, noisy, hectic and dirty. It was most of these things but dirty was not one of them, in the 2 weeks that we were there off and on, the sun shone constantly and although you needed to wrap up warm, it wasn´t anywhere near as [View Full Entry]

We had heard from many a traveller who had passed through Bolivia, that the trip to Rurrenabaque and the Bolivian Amazon was well worth the arduous and occasionally dangerous journey that took you there. First the bus ride, an 18 hour slog down the Yungas road, formally the worlds most dangerous, this is because of the chasm like drops on one side, the inability to have 2 vehicles pass eachother without some reversing, and the fact that the Bolivian bus drivers think they´re at Silverstone. Many of the weaker hearted and richer people we met kopped out and flew ( wimps), [View Full Entry]

After leaving the sunny shores of Peru, we headed with some trepidation across the border and into Bolivia, our 8th country. We had heard many a rumour about the corruptness of the border officials and their willingness to find ´false´ notes both US Dollar and Bolivianos and seize them to stop the influx of fake notes already circulating the country. We had also heard from many a fellow traveller that almost as soon as your feet crossed the border into Bolivia, your bowels had a fright and there was some unpleasant toilet business to take care of for a few days.
