Milan wasn’t the most exciting stop on our trip. I remember hearing that a lot of Europe shuts down in August, but until Milan we didn’t really encounter that. However, in Milan nearly everything but the tourist traps were closed and the first day we were there we had to buy dinner in the supermarket and spent the night relaxing in our hotel room - which was much nicer than I expected it to be! The next day we slept in and headed out to Lake Como for the afternoon. I tried Guiness beer and found it be somewhat disgusting and too bitter for my taste. It was five Euros though, so I drank it anyways. We walked along the waterfront, relaxed in the shade with our books and ate some excellent ice cream and gelato ... read more
The train ride to Venice seemed to take forever. First we had to catch a train to the Italian border and then one to Milan and from there to Venice. Knowing this train might be crowded we reserved seats. The seats were in groups of four, and everyone around us always had a neighbor after the first few stops on the trip. We however, managed to magically be seated in the only seats where no one was assigned to be our neighbor the entire way. It was nice, especially when I noticed some of the other people riding the train that day. One man got on a few stops after us who was easily twice the size of my dad (he resembles the Hispanic version of a 6' Samoan in case you have never met him) ... read more
We stayed in Nice for two and a half days and arrived there mid afternoon on August 3rd. The train ride was took four hours but we had good books to read so it passed quickly. Nice was so hot and beautiful! All the houses and buildings were painted bright warm colors and the beach was lovely, but rocky - much rockier than the one at my family's beach cabin. After checking into our hotel, called Hotel Pastoral, we headed down to Old Town for an early dinner - well early that is for Europe. Old Town is full of places to eat. I had no idea so many restaurants could stay so busy in such close proximity to each other! On the main street there must have been twenty sit down restaurants alone, not counting ... read more
Yesterday we spent most of the previous day walking through Paris and trying to navigate the Metro - subway. Our clocks still being somewhat set on Northwest time, we woke up bright and early after a restless night’s sleep. We decided to go the Eiffel tower before all the tourists arrived. On our way there we wandered from bakery to bakery trying different pastries. Tim has decided to rescind his ill will towards the French as a result of their excellent food and now wants to move here for the food. The Eiffel tower was smaller than I expected, but none the less fun to see. My problem with heights prevented us from going up and Tim teased me a lot about this. The lines were so long though, even at 9am. We then found our ... read more
We landed at London Heathrow a few days ago. I managed to doze on the plane by creatively turning the little tray in front of my seat into a head rest - sort of like falling asleep at your desk at school but not as comfortable. However, Tim couldn't get any sleep. Nobody warned me about how terrible the pressure change can be on your ears as you come down to land from such a high altitude. I thought I was dying until Tim informed it was normal. I got lots of advice on how to prevent this on the return trip from both of our parents. We met up with Christina, my sister in London. We went out to dinner at a Tapas restaurant near her flat. She bought the drinks (she gave me a ... read more

I've been asked for an itinerary so here you go: One thing were probably doing in every city is having dinner at a local pub. My uncle said this was the cheapest way to eat out a lot of time. Tim and I want to try some of the regional beers and wines. If you know of anything good let me know. July 30th - overnight flight to London July 31st - we're sleeping off our jet lag near the airport where we catch our flight to Paris August 1-2 - Paris. The hotel prices were astronomical if you wanted somewhere that was even just safe, clean and close to things. We intend on going to the Louvre and picnicking in front of the Eiffel tower. We want to go somewhere fun for dinner both nights, ... read more
