Day 21 (Monday,11-May-09, JRJ) Up early for another mokoro trip and two short walks. On the walks we briefly saw an Elephant in the undergrowth, but it was so quick no-one managed to get a photo. It's amazing how well an animal that size can hide. We also saw many different birds and some red lechwe bounding through the shallow water which was cool. Got back to island and packed up our stuff onto the mokoro's and leisurely made our way back to the mokoro station where we transferred onto the speedboats and went back to camp. Got back Guma Lagoon [View Full Entry]

Day 20 (Sunday, 10-May-09, JRJ) Didn't have to get up until 8am, but got up at 6:50 to see yet another amazing sunrise over the lagoon. Had brekkie and then loaded all our belongings onto speed boats. We set of from camp with our speedboat driver 'Cobra' through the narrow channels between the papyrus reeds that make up the Delta. On the way we saw a few kingfishers and a couple of crocodiles. It took about 45 mins to get to the mokoro (local canoes) station. The 'station' was a spot in the mangroves where we got out of the speed [View Full Entry]

Day 19 (Saturday 09-May-09, JRJ) We awoke about 6:45 to a beautiful sunrise over the river. Looking out at the river from our bed through our mosquito net was bliss, we lay on top of the duvet for a while just soaking in the surroundings until we had to get up for a cooked brekkie at 9am, made sandwiches for lunch and then went to chill back at our tree house for an hour before departure at 10:45. Had lunch on the road and arrived at a village at about 3pm where we were going to leave Benji for 3 days [View Full Entry]

Day 18 (Friday 08-May-09, NJJ & JRJ) Up at 5:40. Left camp for 6:30 and were joined by a lady and her baggage as she needed a lift to the main road 20km away. This hitch-hiking of locals to main roads with us has been quite normal. On the way out of Etosha, the truck was inspected to make sure that noone was smuggling any giraffes or elephants out of the park. We stopped at Grootfontein for an hour until 10:10 to get food for lunch. Back on the road until 11:45 when we stopped at the roadside for 15 minutes [View Full Entry]

Day 17 (Thursday 07-May-09, NJJ) Left camp early again for game drive, nothing notable happened. At 10am stopped at Ilarli campsite for free time and lunch. At 2pm we started our “Giraffe fest'” Game Drive and saw over a hundred in total, also saw another male lion, and a small pride in the distance. We visited the salt pan which was very smelly. We saw an ostrich near the roadside whose innarrds seemed to prolapse as they randomly popped out and then back in of his bum- weird. Just before arrival at the Namutoni NWR campsite we witnessed a fantastic sunset [View Full Entry]

Day 16 (Wednesday 06-May-09, NJJ & JRJ) Up early at 5.40am for a game drive. Straight away we saw two male lions which we hoped would be an indicator that the day would be full of animal fun. Jamie was gutted because his lion shots were pants though as he'd forgotten to adjust the settings on his camera from the night before - don't think he'll make that mistake again. Also saw elephants, giraffes, zebras, etc. Brunch at 10am, well done once again to Johannes for rustling up a delicious meal. Spent few hours at poolside, was bliss, wasn't expecting this [View Full Entry]

Day 15 (Tuesday 05-May-09, NJJ & JRJ) Had a lie in until 7am. Benji had his battery jump-started again so we could leave at 8.30am. Stopped briefly to see the young giraffe who was rescued as an injured orphan. Stopped in Outjo, a little town, for an hour, had cakes at the bakery, picked up some bottled water and used the cashpoint. We were hassled by 'lookie-lookie men' to buy their carved nuts. On to Etosha National Park - woo hoo, so excited! Checked in at campsite. Had some free time before lunch and then moved on for our first game [View Full Entry]

Day 14 (Monday 04-May-09, NJJ & JRJ) Up before 7am and on the road by 8. Stopped at roadside to see local Herero people sell their wares. It's tradition for the women of this particular tribe to wear horned shaped headress to represent their cattle herding lifestyle. Natalie bought, what we think is, an acacia seed necklace and she fell in love with a local baby who was lying in the shade under one of the stalls. Back on road with a stop for shopping before arriving at cheetah campsite around 1pm. Tents up, lunch, then at 3:15 went to see [View Full Entry]

Day 13 (Sunday 03-May-09, JRJ) Up at 7am for breakfast. Got on the road just after 9 cos Benji had a few problems. Got to Cape Cross at around 10:30 to see the smelly seals. Probably one of the worst smells ever! Even worse than Natalie after a Lamb Bhuna! Stopped for lunch at roadside next to a road sign riddled with bullet holes - very comforting! Not long after lunch we arrived at Brandberg White Lady Lodge & Campsite. Put our tents up and went for a short drive to a National monument site to go see the White Lady [View Full Entry]

Day 12 (Saturday 02-May-09, JRJ) Up at 8:30 after a great nights sleep. Went for brekkie and then for a walk around town for a hours. Got back to room at 1pm and finally ate the delicious cheesecake from Solitaire. Lots of the group went on activities today such as sandboarding, quadbiking and skydiving although we didn't sign up for any because of feeling ill. Stayed around hotel until 5:30 then went for a walk down to the beach to was sunset. Stayed at beach for all of 10 seconds because it looked like a very dodgy place to be. Decided [View Full Entry]
