Update Update: No longer a junior, still a traveller. Now I'm finishing up my senior year of school and looking to put off joining the real world for as long as possible. I made a promise to myself that I would travel before I got a salary. I'm planning on working through the summer to save up some money for a three month stint in South America. I'm thinking of doing some spanish school in Costa Rica, joining a camping tour in peru, and wwoofing in...???? Brazil???? If anyone who reads this wants to join me for a south of the border jaunt, let me know!
!Update! Due to the Great Crash of August 2007 some of my entires have been lost (RIP Norway entry....so sad :( ) and some of my entires are a little fuzzy. Hopefully future travels will make up for anything that was lost. :) Here's to new adventures and learning to back up.
I'm a junior at the University of Southern California and will be studying at UvA in Amsterdam from 1/29-6/08. This is for all my friends and family to keep tabs on what I'm doing in Amsterdam. Hopefully someone will actually read this thing.
By the way, I profess neither to be a good speller or a good writer. You'd think that as a communication major I would be able to communicate provocatively, intelligently, or at least grammatically. Not true.
Well, rumor has it that I'm back in the states. Crazy. So for the two of you that read this thing, don't expect regular updates. However, if I have my way, there WILL be updates along the way. I have a pesky college degree to get out of the way so there won't be any major travels, but you can expect to see some entries about a road trip to Texas, camping in Yosemite, volunteering for a few days at an eco-friendly lodge in Ecaudor/Cost Rica/Colombia?etc., WWOOFing, and (if I have my druthers) working in Alaska next summer.

I´ve traversed more hills today than I ever cared to. But the rewards were huge...great conversations, wonderful food, deserted private beaches... I attatched myself to a girl from Holland who just finished two months volunteering at a turtle conservation and we went for what turned out to be quite possibly the world´s longest walk. Taking advice from the hostel worker, we took back roads and steep alleys and very probably someone´s backyard to get to what he said would be a beautiful beach. It did not dissapoint. Bath warm water, protected cove, white sand, tide pools. No one there. No one. We drifted and giggled and sunbathed and read and talked. Then took the world´s second longest walk to a highly recommended lunch spot. Although it was hugely overpriced, the view was worth the walk and

I want everything that this big bad world has to throw at me. A part of me wants the stability and comfort of the post college life that all my friends lead. I want the cute apartment with the IKEA and garage store furnishings. I want the semi-fulfilling 9-5 job with Free Lunch Fridays. I want the little herb garden in a sunny kitchen window. I want the camaraderie of commiserating about being a poor post-grad over margaritas. But a bigger part of me wants to kick that part in the butt. This part of me wants the fine coating of sand of a Caribbean beach. Creamy dessert in a French Villa. Snowflakes

None of this office cubicle, bureaucratic, paper shuffling BS. This is actually work I can feel good about at the end of the day. I don't want to leave. Still lost. Still confused. Still not sure what to do as a college grad.

In the borrowed words of John Denver Almost heaven, Colorado, Rocky Mountains, Colorado River. Life is old there, older than the trees, Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze. Country Roads, take me home, To the place I belong: West Virginia, mountain momma, Take me home, country roads. All my mem'ries, gather 'round her, Miner's lady, stranger to blue water. It's not that I lost interest, and I WILL go sometime in the future. Now is just not the time. Instead, I'm going to do some more domestic traveling, and spend the summer as a wrangler in the foothills of the Rockies in Colorado. :) I live the 17th. Expect gorgeous stateside pics.

So here's the beginning stages of my "I'm terrified of the real world so I'm going to hide in South America for three months" plan. Total time: three months Total countries: 3-4 Possible countries: Ecuador (want to see the Equator), Costa Rica (went two years ago and have wanted to go back since then), Peru (Llamas and funny hats and Macchu Pichu), Brazil (those famous beaches). A bunch of other countries are also going to be thrown into the pot. Super rudimentary plans: travel one week Wwoof two weeks travel one week repeat for each country. I know this isn't in an interesting blog and I apologize to anyone who reads it. Since I can't travel right now, I

I refuse to have my own cubicle and a padfolio before having spent some quality time south of the border. I'm thinking of going to Peru, Costa Rica, and Argentina. Possibly for a month each. Depending on a summer internship, I'll be doing this either this summer or the months following. I'm also looking into getting an internship at international advertising agencies. Hopefully I can parlay that into a job abroad in the future.

Although I've missed Amsterdam, its only recently really hit me that I actually had the experience and that its already over :(. Looking through all the pictures from my few months there is always a bittersweet experience. I'm already starting to look for new travel opportunities. While I should probably be figuring out internships and jobs and organizing the rest of my life, I find myself looking up WWOOF sites and places to volunteer in Costa Rica. Yeesh...if I can't sit still for more than a few months, how will I ever get a real job? So...I'm crossing my fingers that by the time my 21st birthday rolls around, I'll have been in Costa Rica for a few days already,
